Default G3k build information from hk91

    Greetings,
I’ve exhausted my patience with the search engine and could not come up with answers, so here are a few questions concerning a G3k build from an hk91:

What is involved in a conversion? I’ve seen a lot of people are sending their rifle to specialist armorers to do it for around $1000, however that is as far as the info goes. I can’t imagine a barrel change alone costs $1000 so...
What changes are made? Obviously barrel, but does the cocking tube have to be changed on a 12.5” barrel? Other changes?
What I would like to do is convert an hk91 to a G3k or even shorter to an 8”.
Any and all info concerning this is much appreciated!
    Thanks

Barrel has to be removed, cocking tube cut off, cocking tube insert bored out. THEN, either your original barrel reprofiled to a G3K length (rifling would be incorrect but it would be the HK made barrel) or use an RCM made barrel which are excellent. Install new G3K length cocking tube, refinish rifle. You might also get the paddle mag release installed since it is getting refinished. Also new triple tree with the grenade launching rings.

    https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/G3K-...K-125p1462.htm $80 for cocking tube

    RCM G3K barrel $235
    https://rimcountrymfg.com/product/rc...le-g3k-barrel/
Looks like RTG is carrying these same ones for $178

Rtg parts, new eye bolt $8
    https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/H...AN-29p1886.htm

Rtg parts new triple tree $20
    https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/H...AN-27p4092.htm

Then the paddle mag release parts will run about $45 for the spring kind, and the undersized pin and bushing as well as the contact peice you are looking close to $500 in parts.

Then the labor of pushing out pin, barrel, removing cocking tube, resetting barrel, rewelding cocking tube, installing paddle, refinishing, reparkerizing, repainting.

    Thanks for the info!
Will custom work need to be done with the cocking tube if I were to go with an 8” or say 10” barrel?
Also what parts would need refinishing? Just scratches from working on the rifle? Consequences of not refinishing, reparkerizing, and repainting? Can you tell me more info on the tree? Why replace?
    Thanks

The rifles were riginally parkerized then painted. Installing the new cocking tube will require TIG welding so the reciever will need to be sand blasted to bright metal. Same with the paddle mag install, the pin for the bushing wil need a hole drilled in the denial then welded over and claned up.

The triple tree on HK91 had the grenade launching rings turned off on a lathe. Since a triple tree will need to be installed on whichever barrel install you go with, either turned down of your barrel or the RCM barrel you might have a proper G3 triple tree installed. Its a better look anyway. The paddle mag release is a must do, you will appreciate it once its done.

If you go with a 51 length barrel you will need a shorter cocking tube. At a certain point of going with short barrels also need to shorten the cocking tube extension of the bolt carrier. (51k). If you are starting with a Hk91 for the conversion seriously consider the G3K, Anything shorter use a clone or have a builder build one up for you.G3k build information from hk91-67097.jpeg
