Default 10mm tapered vs older non tapered FA carriers

I’m going to purchase an HK carrier. Is there any real advantage to paying extra for the tapered one? Was it changed to improve a reliability issue? Thx

I never heard of an advantage, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t one. The first MP5/10’s eventually had a number of bolt group parts changed out, some of which I think first appeared in the MP5 French. Wasn’t the first tapered bolt carrier in the MP5 Action Express? Then it eventually made its way into the MP5 French and MP5/10/40 with non-captured recoil rods.

My research has found that the tapered carrier was created with +p+ loads in mind. It was not to correct a problem with the non-tapered.

Wasn’t the first tapered carriers created for the Action 3 bolt carriers (which I erroneously refereed to it above as Action Express)? I thought those Action 3 carriers were tapered carriers with a capture recoil rod assembly. In contrast to the French (f) bolt carrier that was tapered and does not capture the recoil rod.
