Default 2019 SP5K Magwell Stop Block Removal Tutorial

Starting 2019 all new SP5K’s date code BK come with a stop block installed in the magwell making it impossible to install an aftermarket paddle mag release. This tutorial will go step by step on how to remove said stop block. Caution this may void your warranty, follow all state and local laws, yada yada yada let’s get started.
The new SP5K comes with a stop block installed like so. Thanks HK.

First you will want to gather the following tools and supplies.

Then strip the receiver down including the removal of the factory mag release.

You will then want to take a rag of some kind and place it down inside the receiver. This will hopefully help prevent metal shavings from collecting in there. After you will want to use painters tape to cover and protect anywhere you are not going to cut.

Then with the patience of a neonatal heart surgeon you are going to want to slowly start to remove material from the middle of the stop block. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!

At this moment you may start to wonder if you really need a paddle mag. John McClane didn’t have a paddle mag release. Fun Fact: The MP5 used in the movie Die Hard by John McClane was actually a modified HK94. I found that a rotary tool with a snake attachment gave me the most control. You should also be able to rotate the stop block with some fine needle nose pliers or hemostats. Make sure you are cutting in such a way that the majority of sparks are flying away from the receiver. Pro Tip: Wrap a small piece of aluminum foil around inside of magazine to prevent tape from catching fire.

Fun Fact: For the shot of Hans Gruber falling from the building Alan Rickman was told they would drop him on the count of 5, they then proceeded to let him go on 2. You can really see the surprise in his face.

Once you have removed enough material from the middle of the block the 2 outside ends should simply pop out or pop inward depending on how you are looking at it.

Then you can simple throw away the stop block or send to someone letting them know you think you might have gotten a defective part.

And viola you are back in the game!!!! American ingenuity > German engineering

I don't "run" my guns or "run" anything on them. Likewise, none of my guns are "platforms". I hold them up, not the other way around.

A burr might be a better choice than a cutting wheel... less bloodshed! Still, it takes courage to cut into your very expensive SP5K and you, sir, have my respect for that.

I'll have to say.....for someone with only 5 posts, you certainly bring some good ingenuity to the
table. Just out of curiosity, from tape to band aid, how long did it take?

Secondly......you have ask. Why would HK do this? If they watch any part of this forum,
they know that the most commonly conducted aftermarket add on.....is adding a paddle
mag release. Why not just add that instead of putting a block on???

Cheers!!! Welcome to the forum, and congrats on a job well done.

Oh....and yeah.....thanks HK for making things just a tad bit more difficult.

My only conclusion is this. If HK installed a paddle it most likely would be exactly like the select fire receiver is done. Makes sense after all, that's how it engineered and that's how they normally do it.
This means the original pin tube would also be in place since that's what the paddle uses as an axle. All they would do to make the receiver semi only is add the shelf.
Someone somewhere may have decided it would be WAY to simple to drill the shelf, or cut it off all together and have themselves a select fire, front pin receiver. So they eliminate the tube, and the paddle in the process.
That doesn't answer why they might feel it necessary to add this block thing after building these in semi versions for decades without one. It really does feel like they are giving us the middle finger.

They could add back the paddle some way like most hobbyists currently do but maybe the bean counters decided it would be too much of a hassle or cost to much. Who knows.

Good thing he used band aids. You don't want to get blood on the receiver.

Approximately 2 hour 12 minutes 6 seconds. Give or take a few.

Export laws maybe? Why did they attack Russia in the dead of winter? Why do they have a fetish for producing the weirdest porn in the world? Who knows really.
