Looking at the first catalog, did the USP ever have those vertical striations on the front and backstraps in a commercially sold gun? Or did they only ever have the checkering they have today?

That is really something to see. I remember going to a local gun store with my dad and seeing the new USP line in .40 caliber. My first pistol was a Sig Sauer P220, bought two years before HK brought out the USP line. I remember we were comparing the HK to a Glock. Neither of us at the time were sold on polymer frames and we did the unthinkable: bought a Taurus Pt100 in .40 Stainless!! What a shame, as we later came back and bought a USP in .40 and then later .45. Still have all of these pistols, including the Taurus!!

Thanks for posting. I enjoyed these, so did a little hunting and voila. If I get some time, I'd be happy to try and find a way to scan these 1995 and 1996 editions to add to this library.
