Default Rookie wanting to build a UMP

Hey guys! So I'm extremely new to the HK world, I've been into guns most of my life but only since last fall found a love for HK. Like most of you, I've been hooked ever since. I carry the VP9 on duty and the VP9SK off duty, both in the gray frame. I also own a USP 45 Tactical, a P2000SK V3, and my wife carries another VP9SK. That being said though I'm wanting to get together a UMP 45. I wanted to go MP5 route but budget constraints told me only UMP. I've been researching on here and throughout the internet on the different ways to build a UMP and honestly I'm a bit confused I think...

    A) I can buy the Omega Gideon Shadow receiver....if I do that will a parts kit from HKParts fit to complete it? Or is there further work needed on the receiver?

    B) I've also seen the Tommybuilt option....basically the only option is to get a USC and send it into him with whatever other parts and he does the rest?

I'm clear on all the SBR v. Pistol talks on completing the build so I'm really just needing help getting clarification on the routes to getting this UMP completed. It's not the sexiest HK sub-gun but I've fallen in love with it since renting it a handful of times and need one. Thanks in advance!

Several ways you can go about it. While I am not a fan of the 45 3-lug choice made by HKparts, it might work for you.

There will be no work to do to the receiver by you. Early GS receivers had some post-production work done by Omega, but you should leave the semi receiver alone. UMP parts need to be modified to fit. UMP bolts need to be milled, UMP Lowers need to be converted to semi and have hooks opened up for semi receiver ( true for USC or GS )
TBT is also building on the Omega GS receiver. Check out https://www.atlanticfirearms.com and search KSM or Tommy Built

Also, best deal on a USC that I have seen lately is from supporting vendor hkspecialist
    https://www.hkspecialiststore.com/pr...productId=1672

Or, you can lurk around here and GB, source a USC barrel, a bolt, a lower, and the other little bits to put together a GS receiver.

HKspecialist also has a pretty good deal on UMP lowers.

There is also a nice used USC at Cabela's $1299. I understand they will ship for free to your local store.

That looks good. @ach2068 consider that a USC is either a carbine or an SBR. Omega GS gives you the option to build a pistol.

You might want to reconsider this. Tommy Built KSM's are ballpark $2400. A USC + a parts kit and labor will clock in at around 3 large. Plus the SBR fees, and wait. A NIB real-deal HK SP5k will be right in there price wise, maybe a bit less.

And considering that we're basically in clone-world here regardless (the TBT KSM is a clone; arguably a chopped up USC is a clone too), you can get a PTR 9ct MP5 clone for $1700.

The days of 9mm roller locks being expensive unobtainium are long gone, thankfully.

Love my SP5k. Probably going to snag another one as soon as I see a used one at a good price.
    Own: HK91, SR9, SP5k, G36k, HK416, P30L, 2x P8, 2x P8A1, USP9
Future: Done, until HK comes out with something new & nifty. Might start building an FNH collection.
