Default 1st Post, new to HK. Ammo & Break In?

Hello to the Forum! After months of research then months of range time with a multitude of different firearms, I narrowed my selection down to the vp9 OR & vp9sk. I finally made my choice.... BOTH! They are on order and according to my local shop, they should arrive within the next couple of weeks. I am very excited and these will be my 1st HKs.

I have searched the forum and was hoping to get some advice on break in and ammo. I have decided to run 124gr or higher in them and would like some thoughts on specific ammo that everyone likes and any tips for breaking them in.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Looking forward to reading posts here and hopefully contributing to the discussion when I can.

I run 500 rounds of Winchester 124gr NATO and then drop down to 115gr - haven't had any issues for my VP9, P30L or P30SK running with that approach. Got over 6000 rounds through my VP9 without any issues.

Such a hard time even finding ammo locally nonetheless 124 grain. I just got my new VP9 OR so will run 100 rounds of 124 grain through it and then switch to 115.

Congrats and welcome. You could likely also clean, lube then lock slide back overnight, if 124g is hard to come by (what ammo isn't lately). Any of the euro manufacturers and some US 124g rounds are warm enough to break in, then shoot whatever brass cased you want.

"Good" ammo based on literally 50K plus rounds:

    Q4318 Winchester NATO
    Speer Lawman
    Sellier & Bellot
    Fiocchi
    Geco
    Ruag NATO
    Federal AE

    115 +P or +P+ are also possibilities if can't find 124

    have fun, be safe

Sportsmanguide has had the Winchester 124gr NATO rounds available for delivery in 2 weeks - got a couple thousand on order at this point since my wife and I burn through 500 a week these days at the range.

Not sure on the 2 week estimate. They have published September on the Winchester Nato. I have thousands on backorder too, but I'm also getting daily emails from them canceling my backorders. PMC and Blazer so far.

The Winchester is hanging in there, but I'm not holding my breathe.

Earlier this week I saw they had August 3rd, 2020 estimates for the Winchester NATO. I did get the Blazer cancel notice this morning - Federal, PMC and Winchester are holding strong for me too.
