Martin Newton to return to Heckler & Koch as Chief Executive for North America

Ashburn, Virginia, USA. Heckler & Koch has announced that from 1st June, 2015, Martin Newton is to take over the position of Chief Executive Officer of Heckler & Koch in North America. He will be in charge of further expanding the company’s military and civilian business in the North American market.

"We are extremely pleased that Heckler & Koch has been able to convince Martin Newton to return," said Andreas Heeschen, majority owner of Heckler & Koch. "We are absolutely convinced that Mr. Newton – with all his competence and experience – will effectively lead our future activities in the United States, both in the military and the civilian sector. The company’s U.S. activities have developed well over the last years. This development perfectly reflects our clients’ trust in the quality of Heckler & Koch products. It is our strategy to further expand our business in the North American market."

Mr. Newton served 13 years in various positions in the financial divisions of the British defense and aerospace company BAE Systems. In 2003, he started his career at Heckler & Koch’s holding company. By January 2004, he was appointed CFO of the Heckler & Koch Group, and he became CEO in July 2007. He most recently held the position of CFO at Schoeller Allibert, a world leader packaging systems.

Nicola Marinelli to join Heckler & Koch executive board

Oberndorf. Effective June 1st, 2015, Nicola Marinelli has been appointed to the Executive Board of Heckler & Koch GmbH. Mr. Marinelli has extensive experience in leadership positions at Rheinmetall AG and Thyssen Krupp AG.

"We are extremely pleased that we were able to attract Mr. Marinelli, an industry veteran for military products and the management of military projects for both the Bundeswehr as well as allied armies," said Andreas Heeschen, majority owner of Heckler & Koch.

Andreas Heeschen, who oversaw the Group’s operative management from February, will now focus primarily on strategic issues. "I strongly believe that it was a good decision to lead the company myself in these challenging times which I very much enjoy. I am nonetheless delighted to hand over to my tremendously qualified colleague," Heeschen stated. "Together we will continue and broaden our strategy of improved corporate communications and increased transparency."

Until late 2013, Mr Marinelli served as COO of the Combat Platforms division at Rheinmetall Defence, having responsibility for nine production sites in Germany and Switzerland with 2,000 employees.

Ballsy. I like it. Although i can see this process getting very very dicey when ego's start running high in the German government, especially if they think they at some point will need to save face.

Based on what we already know, there isn't a whole lot of useful information there.

We already know the defects are scientifically provable, as evidenced by the Ernst Mach testing that was done. The issue of whether there is a physical problem with the gun is settled, and HK has not challenged on scientific grounds in any respect.

That statement has to be tied to a legal strategy of claiming that "defects of CONTRACT" do not exist. They may be right in that case if the requirements did not mandate that the gun is required to uphold an accuracy standard.

It positions them to argue that they designed, produced and sold a curiously terrible rifle because the government didn't technically ask for a good one.

It is a terrible optic. I wish it wasn't so but I don't see a win here for HK either way.

Perpetuating an argument with an all-powerful jackboot standing on one's throat is a terrible idea. They should STFU, get this out of the public eye and fix it quietly.

Germany’s Heckler Koch goes to court over alleged G36 gun faults

    July 4, 2015

Article was published on 7/4 by The Financial Express: Germany?s Heckler Koch goes to court over alleged G36 gun faults | The Financial Express

Interesting as to who at H&k would have said this “The aim is to have it determined in a legally binding way that the alleged defects do not exist,”.

These are a few updates over the last few months that bear some significance on HK's financial stability so just posting there here for timeline purposes only. Still steady as she goes! The below articles were in German and I translated them into English, so could contain some errors.

Heckler & Koch asked MAD for alleged takeover plans for help
    05/17/2015 https://boerse.dab-bank.de/m/news/de...&newsCategory=

Oberdorf (AFX) - The weapons manufacturer Heckler & Koch has turned by its own account for fear of a possible takeover in 2013 of the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD). 'The negative coverage was the possibility that the company vulnerable and became the object of takeover speculation, "it said in a statement the company on Sunday. Then there was a meeting with the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD).
Gist of the discussions it was to find out who the company's reputation discredited specifically, to make the takeover target and thus to obtain access to important technologies, the report said. 'In particular, 2013 was a year in which an abrupt increase of negative headlines had always occurred and when it was to announce positive news for Heckler & Koch.' In the year, among other illegal exports of G36 assault rifle to Mexico were known. In addition, there were reports of doubts about its accuracy. These concerns were first emerged in 2012.
Heckler & Koch denied again, to have demanded from MAD spying of journalists. Corresponding reports had caused recently made headlines.
The 'Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung' reported that the company had received weapons in 2013 notes in the summer that a dubious link between intelligence officers and foreign investors it aims to take over the company. The newspaper quoted from a letter of the then-president Ulrich Birch MAD Heier. The fear that foreign services could win a safety related impact was, according to the report divided the Ministry of Defense, at least from the previous armor director Detlef Selhausen.
Heckler & Koch has recently hit the headlines because of the debate about the accuracy of the G36. Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) had declared in April that the gun because of the established precision problems no future in the army have - at least not in its current design.
In the words of 2002, the company turned Ascended shareholder Andreas Heeschen, who took over the management of a few weeks ago, the rifle, however, was recently delivered to the German Army in 2005. Service and maintenance made now from less than 2.5 percent of annual sales.
Hardener hit the arms manufacturers of the Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) imposed restrictions on arms exports. This approximately '50 million euros would hold on 'stand, Heeschen said the' Welt am Sonntag '. Expected revenue is therefore plummeted from 235 million euros to 150 million euros last year. This could push the company back into the red. In addition, loads high interest payments on a current loan on the company. Heckler & Koch is but financially secure, Heeschen said the 'Welt am Sonntag'.

Weapons manufacturer Heckler & Koch wants to appoint new CEO
    06/03/2015 https://boerse.dab-bank.de/maerkte-k...lierCategory=0

Oberdorf (AFX) - The weapons manufacturer Heckler & Koch is preparing in the middle of the debate about the assault rifle G36 a change in its management before. Nicola Marinelli will immediately take over the operational business, as the company announced in Oberndorf (Baden-Württemberg) on Wednesday. During the year, he should take over from shareholder Andreas Heeschen the chairmanship of the management.
Heeschen had turned in the spring in the lead after Niels Ihloff had been terminated without notice in February. Heeschen will in future take care of strategic issues in the management. The majority owner had gone with a group of investors in 2002 at Heckler & Koch.
Together with Marinelli wants to improve corporate communications and transparency Heeschen. Heckler & Koch had long distinguished by secrecy, but has recently reached out to the media because of the debate on the G36. Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) had declared in April that the assault rifle for precision problems no future in the army have - at least not in the current design.
'With Mr. Marinelli we gain an experienced industry experts of the market environment, military products and the processing of defense technology projects both for the Bundeswehr as well as the Allied armies provides expert services', so Heeschen. Marinelli brings experience from Rheinmetall and ThyssenKrupp.

    HK Press Release

    June 29, 2015

Statement by Heckler & Koch on current media reports on new charges against Heckler & Koch as well warranty claims owing to alleged quality defects of the G36
Heckler & Koch :: Statement by Heckler & Koch on current media reports on new charges against Heckler & Koch as well warranty claims owing to alleged quality defects of the G36

Oberndorf. The company issues the following statement with regard to new charges against Heckler & Koch, as well as warranty claims owing to alleged quality defects of the G36:
Heckler & Koch only has third party information on the new charges alleging fraud. We will, as always, cooperate fully with the authorities and will provide all requested documentation, necessary for the investigation.

Based on our internal investigation we have found nothing to indicate that there is any basis for this allegation. All documentation demonstrates that the G36 rifle not only fully met the requirements for an assault rifle, but met, or exceeded, the contractual requirements specified by the Federal Armed Forces.

Accordingly, the claims made by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Federal Armed Forces (BAAINBw), alleging quality defects, appear to be without any factual support and are therefore unfounded. The blanket statements made in the claims letter by BAAINBw, with regard to the behavior of the weapon under the effects of heat, do not relate to any quality defects. In all supplied versions, and since being supplied to the Federal Armed Forces, the G36 has met, or exceeded, the contractually required specifications on all counts, including the Technical Purchase Specifications (TL).

Heckler & Koch therefore rejects all claims pertaining to any alleged liability for these unspecified material defects.

Well if they sold 55,000 MP5's with a $2K profit margin, they'd be out of debt.

If they still had the machinery, which they dont...this would be almost impossible..55K is a very very large amount in the civilian firearms world. I think you overestimate how big the market and industry are. In the six years HK was importing the HK94 into the US they brought in a bit over 15,000 of them total. The profit to the manufacturer is generally not that large per unit. They would probably be happy with 500 dollars US per is my guess. I bought one brand new in 1988 and it was around 850 I believe with the A3 stock and 3 magazines. Today, it would probably have to be priced in the 3K-3500 range which makes it a small volume mover... Wishful thinking but unrealistic.

From what I understand it would seem the Deutsche Bundesheer wants to switch to the 416 and one way to do it on the cheap would be to make the supplier of your former weapons system incur undue expense to achieve that end, especially if it's the same manufacturer of the new system you desire. So possibly this is all about the german gov't trying to saddle HK with their own weapons realignment costs. Any Thoughts????
