Here is another GREAT thing about the SP5K coming out - a continued supplied of roller locked parts from Germany !
Bolt heads, extractors, springs, rollers, all the stuff we need to maintain our guns will be around longer because of this.
No one has mentioned this but it's one of the first things I thought of.
And, YES, I hope there will be a 3 lug version or barrel in the future - but how would replacement barrels jive with the barrel import ban? I never quite understood that part - was it a German prohibition or a U.S. thing and is this something that renewed production and importation will open up again?
Technically other pistol barrels are imported like p30, Mark 23, usp Tactical. So not sure if it is just demilled barrels that are banned, or rifle, or "assault type" non sporting. But they should be able to pass it off as another 4 or 5 inch pistol barrel. If HK doesn't do it, maybe mke/zenith will...
Shockwave
I agree this can and should happen. It seems like HK is starting to cater more to the desires of the US civilian market and enthusiasts like us; a welcome change to say the least.
I fail to see the value of a MKE or Zenith barrel over a RCM one made here. Personally, I would put more faith in one crafted by RCM than one from a Turkish government factory (HK licensed or not). ...and I would rather give my hard earned cash to an American rather than the Turks, who of late have drifted ever further towards Islamic fundamentalism/authoritarianism.

I wonder whether we could thread the existing sp5k barrel and attach a 3 lug; http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/HK-3-...MPX-p17410.htm
"Generally, ATF cannot issue a permit authorizing the importation of firearms barrels for nonsporting or surplus military
firearms. "
Now that there is a sporting use for the barrel, there is no Government contract needed for the import and a number of the other restrictions are lifted.
That said, hopefully the same applies to the German government authorizing their export.

Pfft. Considering HK's terrible parts availability since... well, forever, I'll stuff an RCM barrel in there and be done with it.
