MP5's are still made, is this one a particularly rare variant? If not shoot it. I guess if it's a pre-86 dealer gun that would be worth more unfired.

But you have a gun that is currently being made, shoot it and enjoy it.

    Shoot it. Duh.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

Of course, if money is no object, keep in in a glass case to impress those visiting HK elitists. Sell it later after getting some more appreciation, or pass it on when you check out.

Not being harsh, because in my case, I could make myself afford such an item, but I'd be like you, worried about devaluing it, because that kind expenditure is a pretty big stretch for me. My home is the only singular item I own with more value. So I would be back and forth, then fire it one day, and not be able to sleep for a month knowing it will never be worth the same amount again.
Actually, it wasn't that expensive. I paid the price of about 2.5 new Glocks.
I'm more concerned about damaging it.

Factory unfired mp5 machine gun at the price of "2.5 glock"
My BS meter is off the charts. Unless OP is a SOT and the MP5 is a postie or he has no idea what he is talking about and it is just some semi clone or another

Well I still see T. Dyer FA guns that have been looked over reconditioned whatever you want to call it with a certificate selling for 30K plus that were built in the 70s so fire away you can send it in and have it brand new in a sense and still get a pretty good bit of cash back if you ever part with it.
