The $2160 Arms Unlim price is for a real MP5 submachine gun, only sold to Police Agencies. Obviously not avail to duty officers for their own consumption.
Generally the LEO discounts you hear about, like the $2500 SP5 mentioned previously, is avail to duty officers and not the average Joe. Its just a perk to those guys/gals of LE. I suppose the PO Agency itself could buy it but Im not sure thats where they usually buy their Dept. stuff.

I don't think anyone here is confusing a post-86 MG with something that's actually transferable to consumers. It still begs the question as to why the select-fire gun with an (expensive) retractable stock costs less than a semi-only version that is missing a stock and only has minor modifications to render it semi-only.

Mil/LE sales are pretty significant to companies like HK and I doubt they're working with a thin margin on each unit. It's not like they'd have to respec a bunch of parts in the gun (i.e. Steyr AUGs - stock/bolt carrier are not compatible with civ versions) to be incompatible with the select fire versions or redesign the firing system (i.e. the M249S closed bolt).

These are certainly out there. Seems like a big shipment all around the country the past few days.
I missed one in three different places by minutes this morning, and turned down a 4th that they wanted $3200 for.
Then I called my LGS on a whim, and darned if they didn't get one in this morning also.
EVERYbody seems to know these are in too short of supply, and wants more than MSRP. Even my LGS was $2900 PLUS sales tax.
I really didn't want to pay over MSRP, but at the rate these are getting snapped up, not sure there is much choice anymore.

Got an SP5 and an SP5K ($2500 for that) now. I can stop looking but I really hope the prices of these come back down so more people can afford them.

I talked to the guy that does the ordering, first guy had me call back and that was the guy that took my number and told me soon as he had a catalog he would order one.

Doesn't matter at this point the only places that that charge sales tax are company's that do more than 100,000 a year in business in Arizona so none of the small shops are required to so most of the small gun shops that you see on GB don't charge it. Even Atlantic Firearms and Brownell's hasn't charged sales tax yet I have purchased guns in the last month.

Brownells started charging tax in Michigan late 2019, so they are charging tax for most states. Not sure why you haven't been charged yet, but Brownells has NO presence in MI, so they definitely are following the online tax codes, unfortunately... It used to be ONLY if they had an actual presence in your state, but of course we all got screwed when Wayfair just had to bitch about online taxes. Oh, and in Michigan it's $10k in business and they have to charge state taxes, so I believe the laws are state to state maybe?

^I thought it was S. Dakota that brought the suit against Wayfair to grab some new found sales tax revenue. States are the ones with the incentive here. Businesses would prefer not to add this extra layer of tax compliance. Can you imagine having to now learn all the rules/rates and start filing 30 to 52 monthly sales tax returns and remit the tax?

It's gotta be a MESS for sure! And you may be right, it may have not been Wayfair at all, I just know that I am now paying taxes everywhere, and I'm not happy! 🤣 Anyways, hopefully some more HK SP5's start making their way to my dealers in Michigan, cause I'm on like 4 lists right now. 👍

This discussion has nothing to do with HKs, but fwiw, many brick and mortar retailers with little on-line presence pushed their legislators to change the tax laws regarding the net. Governments are greedy and will take any opportunity to bilk us, for sure, but those taxes also help mom and pop businesses compete with the net and maybe survive. So...not all bad.

I have been chipping away at reading all the posts here about the SP5s. I did just talk to a local shop that informed me not to hold my breath that they would be able to ever get any of them. But my point of posting is that he said he talked to their three distributors and at least one of them informed him that they are going to stop production of them and that the wholesale to the dealers price is about to go up to $3000 or right in that ballpark. Anyone else heading this? My info was third hand.

HK does not have a history of doing anything like that with price, especially right after release. As for production, I think your dealer misunderstood you. The SP5K is no longer going to be produced from what I have been told. The SP5 is new and is supposed to be produced on a more frequent basis.

Me thinks the dealer you spoke with was thinking SP5K.

I understand when times are slow, retailers sell low just to get business, etc., but people are paying above MSRP for SP5's, so unless you really want to help out a friend, I suspect it hardly pays to sell it for $2100-$2200. Especially when these are on allocation and shops are getting 1, 2, or 3 at a time.

My FFL transfer man does his business to pay for his addiction, not to get rich. He sells any weapon 20.00 above his in the door cost. I doubt it will happen, because he is small potatoes, but told him I'm in for 2 if he gets the chance. Any time you can get a high profile HK at cost, that's money in the bank.... : )
