Notice the shot of the carrier with what looks like a FP safety. Since the orginal G36/SL8 carrier does not have one, my guess is maybe they adapted a similiar side-swipe design as the one from the UMP/USC.

Can you describe that mechanism on the bolt carrier more? I'm not familiar with the UMP's operating system. Do you think that an SL8 carrier will still fit in this?

This is just a gut feeling, but I doubt they would change much dimension wise, as all the molds for both plastic and metal are in place. There are no real differences outside the stock area and of course the FA parts between the G36/SL8. They are probably sitting on a few million spare parts that need a home and this is good way to get them out there--like trigger, barrels and all the small parts.

When can we order these? Anyone heard if the price is going to be around the rumored 1800 figure?

    Awesome. Can't wait.

Looks like 223 only? Hope it can handle 5.56. CIP barrel.

As far as we know the current plans, you cannot. They are releasing in Germany, not the US.

Yes, but in a Q&A with Wayne Weber, (everyone keeps forgetting), he said one was US bound.

I have my fingers crossed. ...and hoping they don't do something stupid to make parts incompatible with the real thing.

I would really like to see these come to the states. I'm sure the first batch will be like the MR556. Even if it is going to be an $1800 price tag, at first I'm sure all the dealers will be price gouging. Still don't know how they managed to do that with the MR. But this would be an awesome addition to the real HK's we can own now. Especially in that RAL8000 color scheme.

The firing pin prevents the rifle from slam firing. For example when it hits the ground with the muzzle foward from a great height. Also you won't find the small idents on fed but not fired primers, anymore.

There is a tiny spring loaded lever on the right side of the bolt carrier which holds the firing pin in place - it cannot move forward. As soon as the hammer drops, the hammer pushes the lever aside and clears the firing pin.

I have attached two images from an MP7 bolt carrier. I stole these pictures from Marine303 - I hope he doesn't mind.

The red arrow indicates the pivot axis of the firing pin safety. The HK243 possibly requires a different hammer to operate the firing pin safety.

    Edit:

Here's the firing pin safty of the HK416. The principle is the same but the lever isn't on the side but on the upper side of the bolt carrier:

    Edit2:

To complete the HK line of products here's the ingenious UMP firing pin safety which also servers as extractor. Since the part is made of spring steel it doesn't require any springs!

The HK243's firing pin safety is most likely the same pattern as the MP7's. That's probably more than you ever wanted to know...
