Wow. That first one was crazy. I've never seen a gun tested by rotating it 360 degrees while firing. I also like how they called it "point 2 2" caliber long rifle when talking about the conversion kits.

    Thanks for sharing these.

    Great videos. Thanks

Anybody notice the XM8 Light Machine gun at 3:06?

It looks like a MG4 with a XM8 stock attached (along with an AG36....)

I've never heard about this light machine gun before

Thanks for catching that! I thought it was a MG4, but clearly says "including LMG variant". I never knew they were exploring a XM8 LMG! Also noticed that all the XM8 in the video are unmarked!

Default Vintage HK Demonstration & Promotional Videos

HK Desert Testing at Gunsite in Prescott, AZ
    Vintage: 2004
Features: HK45, Spiral 3 XM8’s, HK416, MG4, EGLM, GMG, HK Common Mount for M2 and GMG. HK’s improved Barrett Light 50 Cal (G82), & MP7A1. PLUS!!! The infamous Robert Hirt’s “Mud Test”!!!
Video Length: 17 minutes 56 seconds

Video Quality is not so great, but this is a One of A Kind Video! If you notice, HK worked with Barrett on improving the model 82A1! Also, the German guy (Robert Hirt) in the mud has been seen a few time in other HK videos. This video includes his infamous "Mud Test", which I'm sure you have read before here on HKpro... now the video testament to HK's legendary quality.

Wow. Interesting to see this video again! Good find Oicani. Real, almost unknown modern HK history. I would venture to guess only a few dozen folks have ever seen this one (up till now that is).

The "XM8 LMG" was a member of the HK "Modular Weapons System Family" (MWSF) as depicted in this video. When the XM8 program was killed, because in reality it was a non-competed sole-source award to HK based on a completely different contract (OICW), and HK's competitors were not going to stand for that, the US Army tried to "save" all the work and money spent on XM8 and "recompete" it in this MWSF RFP. The Army required that each member of the family of weapons share a high percentage of interchangeable parts, to include a 5.56mm belt-fed machine gun, thinking no one else out there had anything like that mature enough to compete with HK. SOOOO HK "dressed up" the MG4 with as much from the XM8 as possible. In the end, the program was cancelled as most of industry saw right through this poorly disguised attempt by the Army to cover their butts with a "full and open competition" that would in the end yield the XM8 anyway. Likely they would not have purchased the LMG variant as it was an MG4 dressed up to look like an XM8 and not a "serious" LMG. The things that go on (and still are!) in Army small arms programs and procurement would make you sick.

In these years HK was doing SO much in so many programs it was really amazing what the HK Design and Prototype Labs were putting out concurrently and in very short periods of time. Their output was tremendous and the quality never suffered. No other small arms maker has ever accomplished this feat - ever. From the mid-1990's to early 2000's (less than a decade) HK developed NLT 15 brand new, totally different new weapon platforms (and countless variants) in nearly all small arms categories to include the USP family, G36 family, GMG, MP5/P46, UMP family, 40mm AG36 family, MG4, HK416 family, HK417, MSG90/A1, XM8 family, OICW/XM25, the HK improved SA80A2 family (three variants) and HK GPMG and Ti receiver HK GPMG (HK211), early prototypes of the HK121 (now MG5), countless improvement programs on the Barrett Light Fifty for the German Army, and all the commercial spin-offs (USC, MR's, SL8's, etc.), not to mention all the accessories and local variants with different sights, markings, stocks, rails, on and on and on, all the while still producing and improving the legacy weapons like MP5. And each of these weapons competing at the very top of each category against its competition, the zenith in many (HK416, GMG, MP7, AG36).

All this under the direction of Ernst Mauch with < 600 employees and one factory. Pretty amazing when you think about it.
