is that the final confirmed model? seems to lack some of the A5's features such as the slim stock and rail. The muzzle device is nice though, looks like a B&T Vortex seen on the.. SCAR for instance :-P

To my knowledge this is the standard model. The flash hider certainly looks nice, but pronged flash hiders have proven to be troublesome in the past. They collect vegetation and close up the muzzle.

Keep in mind that the "slimrail" isnt directly an A5 feature. Seems that they had some specifics in mind, looking at the pica attached hook sling.
Maybe the french, with their trend of having Garmin Foretrex on the stock, just prefer this setup.

There might have been a requirement for storing equipment in the weapon.

I have witnessed the same problem with these open FH.. i wonder what's the rationale behind doing an open one. The first M16 in Vietnam had them, then it was ditched for the birdcage-like models. But it has since then been re-issued by other new companies like B&T (Sig553, SCAR etc) Surefire or AAC. It seems to be mainly used on 10.5" CQB guns tough, hence my surprise.

Open flash hiders are more effective in suppressing flash. I have seen a report on a .50 BMG open flash hider which they tried to fit a brush guard ring on. The flash hider with the ring proved to be A LOT less effective than the one w/o.

Looks great! The slimline stocks are nice, but when you shoulder and cheek weld an E1 stock, damn is it comfortable.

Some will understandably and correctly point out that battlefield vegas reported outstanding performance in terms of internal durability, however the standard grunt abuses the rifle a lot physically during exercises as opposed to pure range-shooting. The former being somewhat a weak point of the SCAR (stock, BUIS). You could probably use the 416 as a baseball bat whereas the SCAR would probably break!
This is not the place for ?? VS ?? But I can tell you that as far as internal wear on parts, the guns at BFV take more/worse abuse.. This whole things was just discussed elsewhere and I can say that it was agreed that the rentals getting Mag dumped over and over again, so RED HOT then cooled down and repeat as nobody rents them to shoot semi auto or bursts really it is load dump load dump is far more abusive on internals then even what the heaviest shooters in the MIL do to the guns.

The results the armorers at BFV described mirrored what the guys in DEVGRU have seen across those same platforms. I have not heard of any stocks being broken by them either and if anyone was going to break them, they would be the ones breaking them. This is not to say it has never happened, I can only say it is not an issue.

Those Peruvian Tapes, yeah well if you dropped any weapon repeatedly on concrete from 15' on the stock every time they will all fail.

    Love them both!!

I don't see why someone would want to ditch the thread or its posts just because of the whole "VS" issue - it's a 100K+ Rifle tender where the 416 ultimately came out on top. Obviously based on parameters whose values vary among tender participant products.

I own the latest iteration of MR223 as well as an original SCAR-L. Paid enough for both, love both, but having some limited field experience (Swiss militia) I can assure you that bored soldiers would find the way of breaking the SCAR faster than the 416.

If we're discussing the SCAR's polymer components (stock and lower), obviously aluminum is more robust than polymer, but if we're going go solely by that to determine which platform is superior, then by that logic we should ditch polymer frame pistol and go back to all steel ones. Polymer has its place and the SCAR has proven itself. It passed the SOCOM's torture tests - the same unit the set the requirement for the SOCOM pistol. They're still using the SCAR and thus far haven't had any major complaints with the platform and I'm sure FN would've solved the issues if any arise.

We have to see the leaked result of the test to see the performance of either platforms. Off the bat though the 416 has huge advantage for having M4's ergo and modularity, using French steel and a non-reciprocate CH.
