Default US SOF HK416 Variants: Photo, Discussion, and Cloning Thread

The United States military's historical use of the HK416 platform has been limited to the secretive Special Mission Units (SMU) of the various branches. Over the years these elite units have employed many different configurations of the design. The goals of this thread are simple, but broad in scope: 1) Document (via photos, technical manuals, focused discussion, etc.) the specifications and the end-user configurations of both historical and emergent HK416 variants used by US military forces, and 2) Harbor a space specifically dedicate to the cloning of these SMU HK416 variants - to include photo-sharing and focused discussion regarding clone-build goals, progression, function, and evolution.

Thanks! I'm excited to finally be joining.

I recently took the plunge and committed to a HK416 "Bin Laden Raid" clone. This is gonna be a long process. Here's what I'm starting with:

I've got a Form 1 in for the lower now. I've decided to engrave three lines of trust info above the two lines of HK info on the left side of the receiver. The plan is to set the lines of font so they're spaced just like the five lines of font are spaced on an HK416 magwell. Matching the custom font HK uses on their MR556A1 Competition lower wasn't the easiest thing, but I figured it out. If you want to match the factory MR556 font use: Arial 11.5 - centered alignment - adjust kerning spacing to 1pt expanded (CTRL + D).

    Here's the result:

I've got an AAC M4-2000 on Form 3 now as well, and my plan is to probably get a RAHG - but I might have to stick with the quad rail (not sure if the RAHG would have been used during the raid). Anyone know?

Engrave your Form 1 info on the barrel. Makes it a much cleaner look. Just make sure that it can be seen through a vent hole

Inside the trigger guard is also a nice place to put it.

This surprises me, but perhaps I am wrong. If the lower is the serialized part of the AR platform and your Form 1 is on the serialized component, how can you get away with engraving the barrel rather than the lower/receiver?

    "Frame, Barrel, or Receiver".

Also note: Remington marks their info on their barrels.

You can also engrave on the inside lip of the magwell. I have mine there on both a 556 and 762 lower. It was done via laser and is just not noticeable at all.
