Purely out of curiosity. I assume the barrel can handle 308? No?
I ran both yesterday.
Funny enough I only shoot 762Nato
The .308 ammo is supposed to have higher pressures, by about 10k PSI more, than the 762x51 nato SAAMI spec. That said, since you already used it...I guess one can assume your rifle can shoot either.
There is no "nato SAAMI spec".
There is NATO spec (7,62x51 NATO)
There is SAAMI (US .308 Winchester)
There is CIP (EU .308 Winchester).
The gun will eat all of them.
I would think yes. it would handle 308 rounds
When all else fails RTFM. It says you can use either or.
A Diamond is just a piece of coal that made good under pressure!
OP smashed the accelerator pedal in his fancy mans Audi R8 and left all his firearm knowledge in the rear view mirror.
That's the only logical explanation for his question.
I kid, I kid of course Breitling. Yes, go ahead and shoot .308 to your hearts content. It's all I shoot through mine.

To the OP:
First, you should never actually fire one of your HK weapons. They are intended to be purchased, lovingly cleaned and lubricated (ever so gently), and then returned to the safe to be kept in storage, removed only to fondle, then immediately clean and lubricate again and back to storage.
Second, you ask a very good question. I prefer to shoot the higher quality 7.62x51.5 ammo through my rifle. It is used by special operators, and equivalent round would be the .3085 Winchester. Of course, I do not shoot these rounds through my HK weapon, only a lesser quality rifle.
