Exactly the RAHG rail is wider then the slim line and Geissele, it's not close to the barrel. That's my point.

I've had a Geissele on my 10.4" set up from day one and I don't regret it.

The time-sert threaded inserts extend inward beyond the rail walls, and at the smallest (ends of the inserts) the ID was like 1.5". If memory serves, it was very close to allowing the handguard to slide over a pinned suppressor to at least enable access to the piston assembly. That has the rail walls at about 1.6" or 1.7" (I can measure actual later but I don't think it matters. The clearance vs the Geissele would be nominal, and wouldn't likely sway the heat dramatically.

Carbon fiber rails are as rigid if mounting IR at the 12, transfer less heat, and are a significant weight savings. That being said push your gear to fix a problem or meet a need. If youíre running light psd and need to cut weight and limit heat transfer to ungloved hands then go Troy, if you run IR and need rock solid 3 or 9 oíclock mounting go geissele, if you want to strip your mounting screw and have 0 support choose the Remington ;)

@hamster37 , so we wouldnít say youíre a fan of the RAHG? ;-)

You have a very good point!

I will say I really have to torque down the mounting screw on my black RAHGs and several times Iíve been fearful of stripping it out. If itís not torqued super tight the rail has wobble, unlike my Geissele or HK OEM HGs. The RAL ones fit duffle tight without cranking down the screw.

This is why Iím thinking of getting the new HK MR223 hand guards. I have the G28 Patrol V2 HG on my shorty MR762 and really like it. Itís the same profile as the new Euro MR HGs.

Without going completely off topic, what options are there for the HK417 shorty? Anyone?

ha! Well that puts it in perspective. Word from the wise seems to say... keep a few different rails on hand. Time to get rid of the sling loops.
