Default HK416A5 Upper to MR556 barrel

So, has anyone tried installing an MR556 barrel to a HK416A5 upper? I knew the barrel/upper interface was different, where the HK416A5 has a tab instead of a slot for the index pin on the barrel extension.
Well, me and my Dremel sailed over that hurdle, but now, lo and behold, the threads are different from my MR556 barrel nut too. Even H&K customer service in Columbus was clueless on this point....
Any advice? Going to see a machinist next week, to see if the uber pricey upper can be saved. Good thing is, I've found the limits of my skill set...

If the upper can be saved after I strong armed it, great, otherwise, I'll be crying in my beer....

Holy s*** that's painful to look at. Hopefully you get everything sorted. I'd be drinking something a little strong than beer...

They do use a different barrel nut. The A5 nut is shorter too. You will either have to make one or contact one of the EU vendors for a factory one. As for pairing it to the A5 upper, Bostic just did one.

If "Bostic' is a member, maybe I can search him and ask.

Thanks for some confirmation that I'm not crazy....

No member named "Bostic" in the members list....

I seriously wish there was the potential for a gold monkey, or shrunken head or alien skull at the end of this quest....that would be cool! Or the Ark of the Covenant, with a full auto 11 inch HK416 inside....

He's referring to Tom Bostic (aka Tommy Built Tactical)
