    Default BRN-4 Lower assembly question

I have a BRN-4 lower from Brownells and intend to have a person engrave the lower to make it a semi 416D clone, to match an HK upper I recently purchased. I have a simple (albeit dumb) question for those of you with the BRN-4 lower. Will a standard parts kit work fine, or are there other HK specific parts or components that will only fit. I may get a better trigger group, so any recommendations would be appreciated. I am in contact with a local guy that does amazing engraving work to see about having him engrave the lower.

Also it seems like the BRN-4 lower is finished with more of a Matte finish than the blacker HK finish on my upper and also my MR556. I am wondering should I refinish then engrave or Engrave then refinish?

    Thanks!!!

    GMANinGA.

The only major difference is the buffer retainer pin. It holds the HK buffer retainer and buffer retainer spring. If you use a standard buffer retainer (held down by the buffer extension tube), the pin will not fit or is not needed, but then you will have a hole.

This was a pretty good video from Brownells explaining the differences between the BRN4 and a standard AR

I put a ALG QMS trigger, Geissele maritime bolt catch, and a BAD selector in my first. I’ve managed to scrounge up all HK parts minus trigger, pivot, and takedown pins for my next one. I’ll use standard Colt pins.

    Javier,
Here is parts schematics list on Brownells: https://www.brownells.com/schematics...1-sid1137.aspx
It’s parts #71,72,73. They are back-ordered, but probably available on another site. Good luck!

As mentioned, just the buffer pin. I went with a binary for mine so as to use the third setting.
Works great. Doubles and quads, no problem.

If a standard buffer retainer is used instead of the factory, will it still function with the stock buffer + spring just with a visible hole where the pin would normally go in the receiver?
