Default HK MR556 / 416 Buy or Wait

I've been wanting an MR556 for several years now but I'm not sure if I need to get one or keep waiting to see if HK ever releases it in the A3 or A5 version. My main goal was to pare it with a 416 10.4" upper but I want an adjustable gas block on the barrel. I know you can find the HK 416 10.4" adjustable gas blocks but I just can't decide to go that route or wait. Knowing HK like I and others do my gut tells me to go ahead and get it as you may not live long enough for HK to release the MR556 in A3 or A5.

    JB,

I concur. At least if you live in the USA. You know how it is. We suck and HK Hates US.

having said all that, I think you can still pick up the competition model for $2300

I was in the same boat. Bought an MR762 and wanted the MR556 to go along with it. For the price you pay the weight and the features do not justify it in my opinion. If it was something like the 416A5, absolutely.

I ended up buying a Knight’s Armament SR-15 Mod 2 and I’m very impressed with it as a whole.

You can wait on the A3/A5--- but if you don't have gray hair now, then you will by the time it arrives!!!

Honestly - get a Brownells lower and piece together what you want. If you are going to buy a HK416 upper anyway it will ultimately be more cost effective too. My $0.02

Nothing wrong with the current models and won't be nothing wrong when the new versions inevitably arrive state-side.

You'll find quite a few folks prefer vented over AGB, myself included. Buy what you want and don't look back.

Weird **** always happens in regards to this stuff and civilian availability. It's no secret that if it can be done even quasi-legally, it's a hell of a money-maker.

The "SF" 416's came out of the blue.
The Brownells/Hurricane Butterfly/forging thing was not something that was foreseen
And I'm sure that just a year ago nobody thought there would be a bunch of M27 barrels coming up for sale...(at not crazy stupid prices given one of the first 16" uppers seen here made the rounds and changed hands for $10k).

While I think barreled A5 receiver sets are at best unlikely or a long way from turning up in the sale boards (and even longer odds for non-crazy collector money), I wouldn't stake my life and say they'll never be seen. Case in point, look at the 416 FAQ thread. At the time...completely accurate. In July of 2019, more than a few things have changed and rendered it incorrect.

The best strategy for HK...be patient and scoop up the opportunities as they come, AND always have some dough set aside for when the cool stuff pops up...cause it always eventually does.

There’s a guy on hk owners fb page, lives in America and posted this pic asking if anyone knew someone who could complete his 80% lower. Am I lost? This has the slanted magwell, so A3-A5? If so how is it possible he has it? I asked on the post and was ignored. HK MR556 / 416 Buy or Wait-a80ff1de-69cb-4b69-8f00-65f188892576.png
