Default New MR556 Owner, Geissele Rail

I just picked up the rifle. I ordered a geissele 14.5" rail for it, man it fits tight on that barrel nut. I lubed the piston before i pushed the rail on luckily and it did go on with little pressure but it definitely is not coming off easy.

How often do you generally clean the piston? Because honestly I'm a little concerned about having to get that rail off. Probably have to use a mallet and a piece of wood. It definitely is not sliding off like the factory one and i lubed the barrel nut too per the instructions.

Other than that i like the rifle, very nice fit and finish, just installed my surefire brake and plan to run it suppressed tomorrow time permitting.

your evaluation is correct. the rail is to a very tight tolerance. The rail has to come off to clean the piston.

Roger that, i understand that part, but how often is that item in need of maintenance?

Hopefully the tolerance loosens a bit over time, Im assuming it will loosen up a little due to the heat and such so its a bit easier to get on and off.

Right now i'm wishing i just ordered the longer factory rail, not sure im going to keep the rail.

Clean it every 5,000 rounds. The rifle is overgassed so it will run fine.

good to know. thank you.like i said, hopefully this rail loosens up a little to make it a little easier to get on and off.

Congrats on the MR556! When I got both 10" and the 14" rail for my upper and they both fit pretty tight.
I personally clean mine every few hundred rounds and use a rubber mallet to remove the rail. Probably removed it around 10 times now and it hasnt loosend up at all.

Sounds like i don't have to clean the piston but every few thousand rounds so i guess i can live with it.

I'll try a heat gun when i break it down, maybe warm the aluminum a bit and it may come off easier.
