    Default Brownell's 416 Stripped Upper

    Does anyone know the back story behind these 416 uppers that are new, but have no HK laser engravings? I ordered one, which is indeed completely virgin. Not a bad value for a new upper. I see these a few other places as well. Anyone know how these ended up being sold w/o markings?

    The way I interpreted the description on these was that they were similar to the brownells lowers. It sounded like brownells purchased 416 upper forgings and finished them here. I could be wrong, but that was my interpretation and the only thing that made sense as to why they were not marked.

    Stripped unmarked lowers have been around for at least 3-4 years. I saw my first one in late 2016. Check the bottom of the receiver and see if it has the FA milling. If not, it’s a 556 unmarked lower. But yeah, they’ve been around.

    Default Brownell's 416 Stripped Upper

    @yz125racer

    Thanks for your input. My sense is these are Factory HK finished. There are two reasons I say this: 1) The finish on these is that unique HK416/MR556 finish, it's not your typical anodized finish and quite dissimilar to the Brownells-finished lower. 2) These are sold by a couple of vendors other than Brownells. I suspect these are HK to the point of finishing and that they are marketed by Brownells.

    I believe they are factory HK uppers. HK sells entire upper assemblies with similarly unmarked uppers.

    That's how I interpreted the description. If that isn't the case, their description is worded poorly.

    I agree with you guys on your conclusions based on Brownells description. I have asked them and let’s see how they respond. Thanks for the input.

    Let us know what you find out. They will be the only ones who know. If these are indeed factory, then the price is great.

    I will. I note that both RKS and Midwest Gun Works both are all selling these (looks identical to the Brownells one, which had a similar price point before the sale) with the same Factory HK part number (203567). That indicated these are likely HK Factory OEM.

    Unfortunately I couldn't open the link to those uppers on Brownells website, seeing as it is the US Brownells site and it refers me to one of their European distributors. But none the less I do have a feeling I know what and where they're from. There's a German company called ZIB militaria, which as the name implies deals in all kinds of military equipment, among them firearms as well. Apparently the owner of ZIB has some very good contacts, because over the years he has managed to get a hold of all kind of factory new unused firearms, which he sold as parts kits (minus the bolt and barrel). Among the parts kits are HK416 rifles, several different variants of the G36, the MG3, the UMP, and apart from H&K also a bunch of other guns. Besides parts kits he also sells separate gun parts, those of H&K are all brand new, things such as upper/lower receivers, bolt carriers, stocks, buffertubes, internal parts, barrel nuts, handguards, you name it.

    They also managed to buy a considerable quantity of HK416 50% lower receiver forgings, which to my great sadness and dismay Brownells ended up stealing right from under our noses. Brownells ofcourse knew what a great deal that was, ZIB sold those receiver forgings for somewhere between 40-60 Euro a piece, and I'm sure Brownells paid a lot less than that for them because they bought them from ZIB in bulk, then re-sold them in the US for a profit of probably several hundred percent. Now I know for a fact that ZIB didn't list any HK416 upper receiver forgings in their webshop, but it could very well be that ZIB was still waiting for a delivery of upper receiver forgings, notified Brownells of that after having made a deal with them on the lowers, and hence they were sold to Brownells without ever even having made it onto ZIB's website. Although the HK416 50% lowers have been listed as "out of stock" on ZIB's website for some time now, because Brownells bought all of them, they do still list finished but unanodized HK417 uppers in ZIB's webshop as available, so it wouldn't be so farfetched that Brownells got the raw 416 uppers through ZIB as well.
