Has anyone tried a pdw collapsible type stock with a 556?

I have used the Maxim Defense style with a H3 buffer and no issues.

I have and have used the factory HK416C stock, the GSG9/Todd Bailey/HKParts.net setup, and the SB PDW brace all with no issues.

I run a LWRC UCIW stock with my 416. Had to have a custom shorter heavy buffer made to replicate the weight of the factory 416 buffer. Runs great, but the whole thing was an exercise in spending money.

I used the Maxim Defense CQB with the H3 buffer, the SCW will not work as that uses their proprietary bolt carrier, not compatible with a HK416 style.

Huh, how did that work out? Because from what I've noticed, the HK416C or HK416 PDW version uses a different BCG and buffer system compared to the normal version of the rifle. So how did you make that work?

It worked perfectly because I used it with the factory German HK416C PDW bolt carrier and flat wire recoil spring.
