I have bought both and this is the first one with the wide barrel index.

My own fault for not knowing the difference in uppers ;-)

I'm trying to remove my barrel so that I can install one with the proper pin and cannot get it out of the receiver. I'm using a large wooden dowel and hammer and it has not moved at all. Any ideas or suggestions?

The barrel came out using a bigger hammer and a wooden dowel. The index pin was removed with a tile snip. I then used the shim that Marvin provided after reinstalling the barrel in the upper receiver. The barrel is now properly assembled.

On a side note the barrel nut tool from Brownells is not necessary. The barrel nut tool from Geissele does just fine and will save you some money.
