AI coded HK416 upper on an 80pct lower I finished out as a pistol - makes carrying around as a backpack gun easier being a non-NFAitem.

Had my AF date-coded barrel re-profiled to a lightweight profile, gas port enlarged, and HK 10" vented gas block installed by @NoScoE30 . Weight savings is supposed to be ~4 ounces, though I haven't weighed it myself, but even more than the gross weight reduction, it does wonderful things for the balance.

Very nice, he does great work!

Did you go slightly thinner than factory profile to completely remove the wrench flats?

I just went with the standard factory profile, so there are still shallow "divots" where the wrench flats were.

Aw man, I dont think I can have my chunky monkey turned down even if it would make it lighter. Not to mention no more proof marks. Am interested bout that vented block, still on the prowl for one at a decent price else I may end up having my old block drilled out for a port.

Right on. That is how Mitch did mine. Please update on how the enlarged port and vented block run.

That's a really good option. I might do that on one of my other uppers Augee.

Meh, it's still an HK416 barrel, and it still has all the things that really matter. I did document all the proof marks, just in case, but I could really care less if it makes the gun much more pleasant to shoot, but I'm not necessarily a "collector" about it, I intend to shoot all the value out of this thing... though hopefully not too quickly. ;)

Took her out for a spin in the snow today, starting with unsuppressed function check. No issues with function or last-round bolt hold open--ran like a champ. Despite the lighter barrel profile, the vented block and gas system mods seemed to reduce muzzle flip and perceived recoil, very smooth shooting (HK buffer and spring).

Didn't take the exact temperature, but it was cold enough for my Monster to freeze into slush (very tasty, hahaha) while sitting on the bench between strings. Ammunition was XM193 (5.56 NATO).

Obviously, once I was satisfied with unsuppressed function, it was time for the can:

Much smoother suppressed, and most importantly:

Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with both the reprofile and gas-system work. One step closer...

Is that one of Justin’s clone lowers?

Ditto on the barrel notion. I got a 10” heavy profile that had issues. Mitch fixed them all up and now I have a barrel I don’t mind shooting the crap out of.

ETA. Probably a mr lower. Brain is moving slow tonight.

Yup, it was a toss up between this and the Club 556 thread, but the barrel is a 416, and I'd already started discussing the barrel work in this thread, hahaha.
