I didn't realize there were so many in private hands. I have only ever seen 042 and 005 in pictures from the Gray room, and 036 in one of Kersten's books.

So you have seen 19 US-Govt. MK23 guns in private collections??

Edit: You've seen 14 in private collections??

    I wouldn't have imagined that, and I've seen 4 P7M7s!

    I'll stick with my P7s...
You know that I was funnin' ya!!!
    Correction- 21, and clarification:

    1 (Navy Museum)
    4 (HK Gray Room)
    5 (U.S. civilian)
    1 (HK Advertising Literature)
    1 (France)
    1 (Germany)
    8 (whereabouts unknown)

Of course! No offense taken. I'm certainly no MK23 expert!

That's pretty cool. I didn't realize there were 5 in private collections.

Are you talking only about "US-GOVT" guns, or "USSOCOM" guns too?
Life is an endless series of trainwrecks with only brief commercial-like breaks of happiness.

4 are Phase I ("US-GOVT"/forward slide serrations/"prototypes"), 1 is Phase II ("USSOCOM"/no forward slide serrations), and 16 are Phase III ("USSOCOM")--- all in U.S. civilian hands are Phase III!!!
Thanks to your recent post/picture, I believe that I now have the cutoff for Phase I and Phase II.

Interesting. I never realized that USSOCOM marked factory guns were so relatively common. Heck, if Bo doesn't have one...

Edit: Somehow your post makes my head hurt.. So, you have only seen 4 US-GOVT guns, and they are in the Gray room, then mine makes 5?

the USSOCOM MK23 and the US-GOVT MK23 are both extremely rare regardless but the us-govt is a more rare specimen...just a tad.

Bo had a USSOCOM, but the slide was re-engraved!!!
Hope this is a clearer breakdown:

    US-GOVT (1- Gray Room, 2- seen, but whereabouts unknown, 1- yours) = 4

And my importer is ready to receive yours, when you are ready to ship it--- does not bother me that it is not NIB w/all.

So where do you place my USSOCOM?
If "Dirty Harry" had been made in 1996:
"I know what you're thinking: 'Did he fire twelve shots or only eleven?' Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a HK MARK 23, the only offensive handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"

A friend of mine liked my Mark 23 so much, he went out and bought his own. Now he just needs to buy his first suppressor.

Yours is a somewhat unusual, because of the serial number and date code!!!
Because it is a commercial model, I would say a "Phase III" Demonstration Model (i.e., not Military).
