    How do you get that number (9)? The serial is 111001. Binary is either on (1) or off (0). The first digit is equal to 1 since its on, the second is equal to 2 since its is on, the third digit is equal to 4 since its on, the four digit is equal to 8, but it's off so it's equals 0, the fifth digit is equal to 16 but it's off so it's equal to 0, the sixth digit is equal to 32 since its on. So 1+2+4+0+0+32 equals 39 if my math is correct.

    I think the letter E cancels the first digit.

    The date code is when it leaves the factory which is sometimes years later then when it was manufactured. Many prototypes and test weapons have much later date codes then when they were manufactured.

    The associated ASCII character is 9, but you're correct also, 39 would fit too.
