They were made in the days of Parkerized, not painted HK rifles. You are experiencing German precision when using them on later guns...That coating exceeds the allowable slip fit tolerance. DG

No, the part that touches the gun is stationary and locks onto the gun in the receiver grooves. The pod rotates around that a bit in each direction. They are typical HK engineering masterpieces....
