Makes sense. Do you tap the barrel into place when installing as well?
Lucky Ned Pepper: What is your intention, Rooster?
Rooster Cogburn: I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. Which will you have?
Lucky Ned Pepper: I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!
Rooster Cogburn: Fill your hand you son-of-a-bitch!

I would imagine Marvin’s barrel extension will slide right in since I’ve only seen that tight of barrel extension to receiver tolerances with the MR barrel extensions. I’ve pressed my MR556 barrel back in before, or if you line up the index location on the extension and the upper, you can actually just put the rear of the upper on a gun mat on the floor and push the barrel in by hand with a piece of wood on the muzzle device. Doesn’t take much force to slide it in.

When installing a barrel you should use aeroshell 33ms on the barrel extension, receiver threads, and barrel nut. Should slide right in, if not the above posted method is a good one.

I had to use a heat gun for a 416 barrel even with the aeroshell. Didn’t take much, but I wasn’t going to try and force it. Reminded me of BCM upper receivers.

^^^ Agreed, heat gun on low and wood dowel from the inside is the trick.

    Marvin,

Good afternoon. I’ve been trying to get a hold of you through Beth in reference to my HK Barrel work that I sent to you back in August. Do you happen to to have an estimated completion date? I’m in no rush but would just like to know.

    Much thanks

I just tried to pull my stock MR556 barrel and it won’t move. I’m planning on heating the receiver with a plumbing torch to separate the barrel, just wondering what your experience is during assembly.
you can use heat on the receiver but don't get it above 250F the aluminium will start to lose it's temper above 300
an open flame can be risky because the heat can be uneven I use an industrial heat gun
