Your flash hider extends a bit into the shroud, but if you remove it off the barrel, you will notice that the threads are well clear of the shroud. With a Gemtech mount, there is plenty of area as shown in pics below. YMMV if other cans have different mount devices. When I visited Mike early last year to pick up my gun from getting a optic rail added to the receiver, he said its possible to modify the front of the shroud to allow my Gemtech adapter to slide through for barrel quick change. He also mentioned about the use of a different locking piece if using a suppressor; might have him chime in here on what he recommends.

That is good to hear, I go back and forth on the K with the side cut out of the shroud. Those I know the cut is there to get the barrel out, but would also be a solution for silencer mounts as well.

So do the threads sit flush with the rail or do they protrude slightly?

The last thread is approx .300 in front of the shroud and doesn't matter whether you have a light or heavy profile (MM OEM) barrel. Notice where a typical flash hider threads are; this is why it sits down inside the shroud. Since the Gemtech Quickmount only needs approx 1/8" movement aft to lock/unlock, there is no issue of mounting my G5. The G5 doesn't show up on Gemtech's site anymore, but they still pop up on GB; someone was selling NIB ones a few months ago for less than $300 each.
