    Awesome!

Thank you so much for taking the time!
One day Buddah was sitting under a tree.
A knight walked up and said: "You look like a Pig."
Buddah replied: "And you look like a god."
The knight, obviously puzzled asked: "What makes you say that?"
Buddah replied: "My son, we see in others what we see in ourselves."

At SOI, the non-infantry Marines who attend MCT receive very limited training and familiarization firing with the M240, but no longer receive any training on the M249.
Within ITB, there is no training on either in the initial 29 days. Once the second phase begins and the infantry Marines continue on to their specific MOS training (0311, 0331, 0341, 0351, 0352), only the 0331 POI receives training on the M240 and M249.
Only the 0311s (during the second phase of ITB) receive training on the M27.

I love reading your write-ups and seeing the pictures. Just a matter of time before you have your own section...?

    Thanks for taking the time.

it's really too bad 0311's don't get trained on either of these any more, considering how much exposure they (should) have to them in the fleet. IMO during the non-specific phase of SOI all infantry MOS Marines should have a familiarization course on the M9, M27, M249, M240, and maybe even the M2. I know a lot of Marine Corps training philosophy is based on training at the individual unit, but unfortunately these are wide variations of the quantity and quality of training in the Fleet at the Company and Battalion level. Sad to say I had more M9 training in AFROTC than in SOI. I had more patrolling instruction in college-level Army ROTC than at SOI, for that matter also (it got me Meritorious Lance out of SOI, for my troubles)

By virtue of being in Small Craft Co I had a lot more exposure to M240's (and M2's and MK19's) than the average 0311 would. I consider myself fortunate in that regard, except for having to be within 35' of 40mm's when they misfire in a MK19...!
I hear what you're saying. There are tons of things we "should" be training the entry level Marines on, but as you know, there are only so many training days provided and already so many T&R standards to accomplish. Some things are minimized, while others are left out completely; left for OJT training later. These decisions are influenced by the customer, the Fleet Marine Force. If they wanted a more trained Marine, SOI could give them that, but it would take longer. They have chosen to get what they get and get that sooner.

Definitely the KAC BUIS is an excellent.

    This is a great writeup.
