Which vertical grips are they using: KAC or HK?

To save money, the Corps went with what we already had in the supply system, the KAC.

Awesome writeup James, thanks. Question- what barrel profile is used? Relative to 416 and again to our MR556?
Lucky Ned Pepper: What is your intention, Rooster?
Rooster Cogburn: I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. Which will you have?
Lucky Ned Pepper: I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!
Rooster Cogburn: Fill your hand you son-of-a-bitch!

The M27 barrel is the same profile as a standard HK416 16.5" barrel, with the difference that the M27 has the bayonet lug moved forward from the gas block and the gas block vent hole has been enlarged from 1.5mm to approximately 1.7‎mm.

The MR556 barrel is the same length and material as the M27/HK416, but is different in the following:

MR barrel has thicker barrel profile.
MR barrel has 1.5mm vent hole and no bayonet lug on barrel.
MR barrel has no chrome lining.
MR flash hider is slightly different (same threading though).
MR barrel is heat pressed into receiver, not just torqued in ‎as the M27/HK416 is.
MR barrel has a "lug" near chamber that does prevents the use of the M27/HK416 full auto bolt carrier.

The MR build is designed more for precision.

This is the level of detail and insight that would be nice to see periodically in something like American Rifleman. But I'm thankful to find it here, instead. Thanks for sharing your access to the rest of us.

Now if I can (1) get a civilianized version and (2) into Kalifornia!

Nice observation as always James. This was actually a gift from a GOOD
friend of mine whom spent several tours in country. He is the very Marine
that introduced me to firearms some 10 years ago.
