What is your take on the SilencerCo Maxim 9 and providing a solution to this issue above? This PD also uses and qualifies with M4 rifles as well as shotguns and can use up to 308 ammo at this range. Currently unsuppressed firing is what occurs at this range. Do you think the future use of integral suppressed firearms is a solution for urban police depts facing range noise issues?

I'm at work and haven't read the article, but just based off of your question in the thread:
I would think they would train with whatever their duty weapon is.
The other question is who pays for it. Are the taxpayers going to foot the bill for integrally suppressed weapons just to keep the noise pollution to a minimum? Not in my neck of the woods. Our taxes don't even seem to cover road work anymore sadly.

They are indeed very cool pistols though!

The Maxim 9 is way too loud. Almost as loud as some staplers!

A friend and I tried to replicate the sound of the Maxim 9 in live setting. This was achieved by taking a spoon and lightly tapping a plastic cup. Tapping a bowl or glass was leagues louder than the Maxim 9.

I'd like two of them. One for car, other for nightstand.

The tax payer foots the bill. The thing is it's 15 million for a new indoor range. Not an option at this point. 3 million to renovate the existing range (outdoor) proposal on the table. To add the Maxim 9 to the force of about 350 units is maybe $500K and then the police can shoot every day without the citizens who live in the area being startled by gunfire. The attached paper talks about other benefits for the PD.
