Hi,Holc8 . Besides the SCS , I have a 507K X2 . The dot on the 507 is very sharp and distinct . The dot on the SCS is not . It's more like a star burst . Are you seeing that on yours ? I've cycled through the brightness settings and the 32 MOA circle does get sharper when reduced . Not sure if I have a defective unit or not .

I don't hassle with shipping that thing across continents. I got it for T&E. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it goes... :confused2:

For now not being able to switch it off doesn't affect function. We are required to store guns in safes by law here, so if I am at home that thing is in a dark space and will go into it's 200,000 hour battery life conservation mode. If I'm out shooting with it I try to get it into the light and preferably sun as long as possible to recharge. But that's usually just a few hours at a time every couple of weeks and sometimes even months. We'll see how long that will extend the battery life.

If it ceases to work, I can still take it off the gun to get it fully charged seperately and then remount it.

It's stuck in it's "dot mode" at this moment, which is the one I want to use anyway, so not being able to switch between the reticles isn't an issue either.

Besides that, I hit what I'm aiming at. So it does it's main job at least.

There is no real brightness-adjustment curve, at least not one I would choose. It's always a bit too bright for my taste. But that's a design choice of the maker. But rather too bright than too dark. So there's that.

I considered the SCS when I bought a red dot. But that chart convinced me otherwise. My VP9 is a carry gun. Basically, it never sees light. When stored, it is in a dark safe. When carried, it is in the dark under clothes. The only opportunity it would have to charge is the few seconds between my hip and the safe, and 10-20 hours per year of cleaning and range time for that particular gun, which is most often in an indoor range or basement workshop. So it will never see 50h - 60h of outdoor charging time. And I would never put it on my deck for a few hours for peace-of-mind.

All that said, the SCS will probably never see 200,000h of discharge time in storage, which is 22 years. And even 10,000h (over 1 year) of circle/dot in-use will never happen. Either me or the gun will be gone before then. So in reality, the SCS has a permanent battery, rather than a rechargeable battery - the solar panel seems like a gimmick to me. In my experience, gimmicky new things tend to fail. I would rather have a normal replaceable battery fail (easy fix and preventable with maintenance), rather than see the SCS battery fail (much longer downtime to replace).

I really like the way the Holosun is so VP friendly and direct mounts and doesn’t require silly tall sights.
I really dislike that it’s Holosun and would prefer to spend more for a more durable/not Chinese made optic. Oh well….
It took me a while to try holosun coming from trijicon. However, they aren’t bad optics. I own three now and have had zero issues. I actually like their reticle options too.
