I would like to add 3 lug adapter to SP89, soon will be converted into another MP5K-PDW.
Does 3 lug adapter come with std threaded barrel end & protector?
What's typical asking price for adding a adapter rather than swapping out the barrel?

Good question, I have always wondered the same thought. Is the 3 lug extention non "rifled" and just an add on to the original barrel? Do you need to have the original SP89 barrel threaded and the 3 lug just screws on to make the complete setup?

Pics of any job done would be greatley appriciated.

You can cut a 94 barrel barrel and thread it to add a three lug adapter. The SP89 barrel does not extend past the receiver so there is nothing to thread. Based on the other response there is a smith that will weld one on. That seems like a delicate operation. :410:

I bought an Urbach "navy" barrel, and just swapped the barrels. The Urbach barrel has the 3 lugs and a threaded muzzle with a thread protector.

You can pick them up from hkspecialist.net.

Someone has to have a SP89 converted to a 3 lug barrel to make a MP5K-PDW? If you do, can you share a few pics of the 3 lug adaptor and how it was put on the barrel?

Thanks,

I have the SP-89 done by S&H as said in another reply.

If you will send me a email to [email protected] I will send you some pics of the piece without the TP so you can see the add on......works great and sure beats having to buy a whole new barrel and then paying to have the old one pulled and new one inserted.

the MP5K PDW is the ultimate gun in cool looks the lugged and threaded barrel just adds to the look of the gun. Then there is the plus of you can use a lugged can or a threaded can. The Urbach barrel looks like a good way to get a PDW.
That is the way I am going to do mine.

I am looking into this conversion as well. I looks like the Urbach barrel is of good quality and a reasonable (considering...) price.

Is there any reason to think that adding the lugs on an existing barrel would be less of an option (in terms of strength and durability) than just getting a whole new barrel?

POF has Pakistan-made 3 MP5K lug barrels for ~$200. What are folks opinions on a POF model vs. the Urbach?

SP89 to MP5K-N

I had a HK 94 barrel shortened and threaded to take a 3 lug adaptor and that is on my "PDW" now (N configuration).
I am having an issue in that my POI with a can is quite different than without. The issue is with my adaptor or thread protector as my other "MP5" has an actual take off 3 lug barrel and the can works fine on it.
Since my issue occurs with a shortened 94 barrel, I can't imagine what could go wrong by "extending" a SP89 barrel by adding an adaptor. Might work fine with the flash hider but a suppressor is another thing.

In the past people have added the 3 lug attachment to the shorter MP-5K barrel. In some cases the rifling does not go to the end of the 3 lug. I consider this a half assed approach. Mine was done by shortening a 94 barrel. When I had mine done there was no other way to do it. If I had to do one now I think the Urbach barrel is a good choice.

I can advise that my 3 lug that was added has in my opinion no effect on less accuracy then if it were right to the tip of the barrel end.

I am hitting the same at 25 and 50M on metal torso targets as prior to the 3 lug being added..............I guess if you plan 100M shots it might make some difference but at short range where most of us would use this weapon the deal is done with either method.

I wouldn't jack around with a 3 lug adaptor if you're going to use a suppressor. Not problem, if not. I have a buddy with an older S&H full size MP5 where the adaptor has loosened, so now he can't use the suppressor. Might be OK, but why take the risk when building arms in this price range?

I have no experience by which I can compare the two. I decided to get the Urbach based on the fact that I was converting an actual MP5K (restamp) sear host, and not a clone. My rationale was that the Urbach would barrel would hold it's value, and enhance the value of the gun itself. I think a POF may have detracted from the overall value. If I had a clone, I wouldn't have been so choosy.
