Any Info on SAR-8 HBSR

I was doing some web surfing and found a Russian site that shows a Springfield Armory SAR-8 HBSR, (Heavy Barrel (Counter) Sniper Rifle).
Does anyone have any info on this variant? How many made it into the US? The Russian site calls it a "Poor Man's PSG1", and I for one, would like to have one of these SAR-8 Versions.

I have included to the web site, and a couple of pic's, plus a page from a Springfield Armory catalog:
СнайперÑкаÑ винтовка Springfield Armory SAR-8 HBSR (СШÐ) - ÐÑ€Ñенал - Ð*нциклопедиÑ оружиÑ. ОгнеÑтрельное Ñтрелковое оружие. Оружие поддержки.

Springfield marketed this rifle back in the mid 90's, or somewhere close to there. There were only a 1000 ever made from info I have read. There was one on gunbroker.

The gun article I read back when this rifle came out also referred it to a poor mans PSG-1.

It retailed for 1,200 if I can remember correctly.

I've seen that gun before and I think it's the onlyone I've ever seen for sale. Sure is proud isn't he.
The finish don't look right to me, nothing like the regular EBO SAR8. The bore looks to be corroded too. I wouldn't give him half of his starting price.

All the ones that I have seen have that "lighter" finish--- remember, this was a special production run!!!
You would think that the seller would "clean/oil" the rifle prior to posting pics.

Good point. I've never laid hands on one so that may well be the original type finish. Why they would do that is beyond me.

No problem!!!
I have never seen one "in person", but I have seen about a dozen for sale on GB over the years.
