So apparently I didn't even know these came out (or the USP 9mm SD was replaced by a true USP Tactical, though for some reason no USP Tactical comes with the lighter springs anymore) and have dug up a few old threads on them.

Apparently the clear mags weren't "HK approved" for duty use, something I never knew in years of using them. Something about the spring being the same one as the 15rd magazines?

I know the body of the new 18rd mags is longer, does it then use a stronger spring as well?

I wonder if the newer mags are "HK approved" for duty use. I have a bunch of them on the way so I'll be able to pull the springs and compare but it might be a week or so away.

The newer mags are a tad longer, but it's the floor plate that is thicker, not the mag body getting longer. Same mag spring.

That's the best comparison thread I can find. The followers clearly look different from the outside. I guess I can compare the follower and spring from the 15rd mags to the black 18s this week. I don't have any more clear ones though. I decided to buy the black ones this time around since they are supposed to be better.

ETA: They are selling this as a jet funnel magazine specific spring:

Well I now have examples of these newer mags in hand.

If the reason the clear mags weren't duty ready is that they used the same spring as the 15rd mags that isn't the case for the black polymer/metal hybrid mags.

The spring on them is CONSIDERABLY longer than the 15rd one. I will upload a pic later.
