pretty much says in the title. ive been looking for a red dot sight for my full size usp .45. most of what ive seen the slide is milled out in the rear to add this. but ive also noticed it has 2 punch pins in the top too that I'm not sure what they are for and could be used for a sight? I will be getting the front of the slide milled anyways so I want to know if I should do this while its already in the shop or just leave it. I tried to find out on my own but there was no clear answer I could find online.

The only way I know of to do it without milling the slide is to use a mount that takes the place of the rear sight and utilizes that dovetail. I don't know if one exists for the USP. When I was deciding how to mount an RMR to my P30L I looked into them and they seemed to put the sight too high off the slide for my taste.

I've also seen contraptions that mount to the pic rail on the fame and extend up and around to mount a red dot over the slide but I've always thought they looked kind of comical.

I sent my slide to APO. They milled for the RMR and replaced the sights with suppressor height sights. I bet they offer the same service for full size USPs.

Comical!?! I never!

I wanted to try out a red dot and they didn't make the dovetail mount for this M&P22C. This contraption is the next best thing with respect to keeping the dot as low as possible since its a direct mount.

That said, I saw someone selling a USP specific HK optics mount on our forum. Maybe its still there?

No offense intended, different strokes for different folks and all that.

I was just goofing man.

They are not an elegant solution but reasonable with respect to the nicer treatment of the optic and interchangeability with other hosts. Some secret squirrel agency had the Geiselle 6-Second Mount made for their Glocks, but includes a light mount.

OP - Did you see this thread:

Problem with those Pic rail mounted solutions is that they aren't too rigid. Even the "open" or "race" grade ones have a little bit of flex under recoil.

What you want is the dovetail solutions mentioned (I haven't looked into whether it's made for the HKs):

This honestly is the best way to do it. I expect H K to marked milled slides at sometime.

A custom mount for a red dot will run you about $200. I paid a gunsmith $142.50 to mill a $40 aluminum blank, plus shipping charges so I can run a RMR on my USP. Maybe someone could do a group buy and bring down the cost?
