I am considering buying an HK45 from a friend. Question is, is it legal for me to borrow the gun so that I can try it out at the range without his being present? Or does the fact that it's an off-list gun mean he has to be there at all times?

Or, phrased a different way, if a cop were wandering past would he legally be inclined, or required to, question how it is that I am shooting an off-list gun?

Why don't you ask your local LE or consult with an attorney for legal questions? What would anyone here be able to say to make this right for you and where you live?

+1 on an attorney...I wouldn't give the local fuzz any incentive to poke noses where they don't belong...LEOs in my area aren't verify well trained on gun law specifics so an attorney would be my advice...

Or just go to the range with your friend present--seems a lot less hassle...

Legal questions are not appropriate for this forum. It's on the Internet...
