Can't Remove Slide Without Pulling Trigger on VP9

Recently purchased a VP9A1K. Been an HK fan for years, had one of the original VP9's in the tactical version but something about it just felt off and just didn't catch on with me. I think it was the size, the original VP9 felt more like a G19X or a M18 in size so it never managed to push my G19 away from me.

Fast forward 7 years. The VP9 comes out in a G19 size(VP9A1K) and I was stoked. Finally bought one last week, went out and shot it, loved everything about it. Will be replacing my G19.5 MOS as my main do it all gun.

After the first range trip, I came home and cleaned it up. I may have gotten a little bit too carried away disassembling it 😬. I put it back together, and now when I want to disassemble it, I have to pull the trigger in order to remove the slide. When I first bought it and before I went to disassemble it in detail, I just had to push the lever and the slide would come out without having to pull the trigger.

Now I have to pull the trigger to disassemble it. What step did I screw up on? For the time being it's sitting in my safe without any ammo in it and out of service(just in case I screwed something up) until I can figure this out.

Just to clarify, I went to disassemble it in detail but no pins were pushed out, I didn't go that far.

Help appreciated.

I have to do this on my A1K but not my A1F. The slide gets hung up when trying to disassemble and I have to pull the trigger to release the slide. I have no idea why, and it happens about 60% of the time I take down the gun. It functions totally fine otherwise so I don't worry about it.

I’ve field stripped mine three times so far. 1 time out of those three I had to pull the trigger too. Zero idea why and it’s run 100%. Functions perfectly. I really don’t think anything is wrong at all. Tolerance is right. Probably just needs shot more, loosened up a bit and field stripped a few more times.
BTW-I’ve got the K too. I do not own the F. My original VP9 2020 OR I’ve never had to pull the trigger to get the slide off.

Thanks for the video. I will deep dive more into my issue tomorrow.

Are there any videos dissasembly videos that you guys are aware of that are VP9A1K specific? Might just be me but there appears to be some interior parts difference. Could be just interior parts coating of earlier VP9's.

I think I got it. Trigger return spring wasn’t installed properly when I put it back in.

looked around, can not find a picture of the short side of that spring. Does anyone have a close up? Much appreciated. It’s obvious where the long side goes but the short side, is it supposed to be tucked it somehow? Is there a groove where it goes into the trigger?

Reporting back on my findings, in case anyone else has a similar issue in the future.

Issue has been resolved. I did not properly seat the short side of the trigger return spring, on any pictures and videos it is very hard to see where it's supposed to go but there is a very small slot for it if you look in there with a flash light. Slide comes off without pulling the trigger now. Good thing I have no reason to ever take that damn thing off as internally this gun is perfect, there isn't anything I want to change about it.

After finally putting the trigger return spring in, I accidently popped the trigger bar and disconnector off somehow towards the rear. Spent another hour manipulating the internal parts carefully trying to get both parts back in. I have no idea how I did it but they are both securely back in and not popping out when I manipulate the trigger with the slide off.

Love the size, the capacity, the looks, THE PRECISION, I like everything about this gun but the internals are definitely more complicated than any other polymer semi auto I have handled over the years.
