I am evaluating the feasibility of offering a group buy on Eratac optics shades and am posting this to gauge interest as well as soliciting the community’s feedback. I’ve discussed this at length with the moderation team and am very familiar with the history of this offering on this forum.

I am planning on doing a 150 - 200 mount run of the Eratac shades. These shades are to be clones of the ones used on the MP7, G28 & G36 guns in Europe, but with authentic Eratac bases. These will be for the Aimpoint T2 as T1s are no longer cataloged by Aimpoint. I project a price point around $375 shipped. I’d like to offer both black and tan (RAL). I have not decided yet if the RAL will be cerakoted or anodized (see below). Material will be 7075 aluminum. I've already spoken with Eratac to get the bases and they are averaging about 18 weeks to remit. In the interim I’d like to get the shades into production so it's a matter of finishing and assembly on arrival.

This post is a feeler to see if there is enough interest for me to continue with the project. The minimum order for this is 50 (regardless of color). This thread is not a commitment to buy on your part, just gauging interest.

If there’s enough interest, the next step, once approved by the mod team, will be to do a commitment & preorder thread. This means, in the next thread, I’ll announce the final price, and ask for commitment and a $100 deposit from you. Once the shades and bases are in and assembled, I’ll notify everyone who made a deposit and expect the balance of the payment before shades are shipped by me to you.

Important note on color:

  • Black will be anodized black. I don’t yet have a shop I’ll be using for this, but will share once I know.
  • Based on experience and on previous members’ releasing similar shades, we know that to get the best, most consistent shade of tan/RAL, we need to use Cerakote. With Cerakote, color control is simplified and thus the colors on the shades are consistent. Cerakote can scratch. Cerakote is less authentic as the OEM tan shades are anodized (“tanodized”). If we go with anodizing, color control becomes more of a challenge than with Cerakote, and there is a risk of inconsistent shades of tan across the entire batch of shades, but also – and this is important – on individual pairs of shades. Meaning you might get a pair of shades (front and rear) that are slightly off from one another or one shade might be darker on the bottom and lighter on top, etc. i.e., color anodized aluminum runs the risk of inconsistent coloration of the metal. If you demand perfection, tanodizing is not for you! If you demand authenticity, it is. Also the silver R-1 unit below was a color test for a gun build in progress that I was messing with but if some actually have an R-1 and want that, I can run a few that way.

If you are interested, please respond with answers to the following question:

What color(s) would you like, and do you prefer anodizing or Cerakote.

EDIT:
The new PRE ORDER thread has been made here:

All, please refer to that thread who posted interest here to proceed. Thank you.
