I got a CA89, it looks great! This one has the real HK SEF Navy lower by the way, looks great. It has 3 lug barrel underneath. One thing I'm wondering is for those who's shot their CA89, does the muzzle blast damage the plastic shroud? I'm wondering if it would be good to cut down the shroud (since it's not original HK anyway) so to expose the 3 lug barrel muzzle.

By the way, I've heard that this version as referred to as CA89K, while CA89 is the pistol version of HK94. For this one, it is labeled CA89, which I believe it's how it should since it's a CA clone to HK89.

I have the same handguard on my V89 and have shot it numerous times, the muzzle blast does not damage the plastic.

I wouldn't cut that down to expose the barrel, that handguard is there so your non firing hand can hold it, if you cut that down you won't be able to hold it, your thumb will have no protection against muzzle blast. You see that dimple that is on front of handguard, that is for your thumb to rest in.

That's what I was thinking the dimples were for. Stilll, that's just awefully close to the muzzle, the shroud ends exactly where the muzzle ends, and there's only about 1/2" of separation. It's like having your thumb right by the USP muzzle when firing. I am thinking of holding the gun by the magazine well area.

It's new but has the HK SEF lower instead of CA's, I paid just under 1G including transfer fees. It think these are really good value products.

I bought the same gun from Cohaire Arms off Gun broker. How long did it take for shipping? My dealer sent FFL 8 days ago and MO arrived on 4 days ago..............I am very anxious I bought a Aimpoint Micro T-1 and a B&T mount for it. Thanks D

I don't have a suppressor, but the way that plastic part sticks right by the muzzle just rubs me the wrong way. I'm thinking it'll either be scarred or at least be charred by the muzzle blast. Also it would look better since the original MP5K didn't have shroud sticking out that far. The lugged barrel look much better than a stubby plastic piece. I guess it is the correct look, however, since that's how HK SP89 came in.

As for shipping, I didn't get it from CA directly, so I dont' know but i heard these are the last of the ones they'll run so you're lucky to get one. I guess it's best to get 'em while getting's good.

If its a pistol foregrip, then it would make this an SBR. As a pistol, you can only have a handguard or barrel shroud. Otherwise I'd have used an HK K-grip.

Foregrip on a pistol would make it a AOW, putting a stock on one would make it a SBR.

Nope. A foregrip on a pistol makes an 'AOW', not a SBR. Stock on a pistol makes a SBR.

The real sub-gun version is the MP5k, where the "k" stands for pistol. The SP89 was a nomenclature designed to capture the year of 89 reference, which was the Assault "Rifle" ban. I think they still imported the SP89 after this "rifle" ban.

Later, in 1993, it was banned with assault pistols/weapons. The CA89 reference that Coharie uses is appropriate as a in Coharie Arms 89. They put the "k" on the end to designate it as the actual pistol so that their mis-nomenclature on the CA89 (full size MP5, pistol version) would make sense. DOH!!!

Ok, the grip would make it AOW, not SBR. If it had the MP5k buttstock then it'd be SBR.

As for the name, wasn't the SP89 an official HK designation for the commerical MP5K in pistol form? It would only be logicial for manufacturers to use 89 reference when it comes to MP5K/SP89 type of receiver and size. The pistol version of the MP5 is MP5A1, so technically they should call pistol version of the clone as A1, ie. such as BW5A1 or CA94A1.

Yes, but they (Coharie) calls theirs a CA89. Never understood that.
