When I do a search on Gunbroker for CA89 I get this:

Which is an SBR. Now there is a CA94K (which I like) but it is an AOW:

Anyone have a source for the pistol? What is the process for an AOW? Is it less painful than a SBR application? I just did an SBR and it is a pain in the a$$ in my area.

Thanks!

The weapon in the first pic is not an SBR unless you add a buttstock and tax stamp, otherwise, it's just a big pistol. Jeff

They call their MP5 and SP89 type pistols "CA89" and "CA89k". The one in your first picture is a "CA89", while the second is a "CA89k AOW" due to the optional vertical forgrip. The rifle configurations are called "CA94".

The "CA89" nomenclature is kind of confusing since it's just a "CA94" without a stock. But I guess they figure that the 1989 designation should have been used on any pistol configuration so that's what they did.

If you don't get in contact with them or on the list somehow, you have to bid on whatever configuration they put on gunbroker. Lately they have been doing mostly the CA94/40, CA89k AOW, and CA94 SBR. I'd suggest getting one of these if you can because you won't have to engrave anything one it. But if you can't have a NFA weapon like this then you need to keep trying to get in contact with Wendy.

AKATTACK, thanks for the PM.

Edited question as I confused myself. :) I was thinking of a foregrip like this one in the picture. Not a MP5K foregrip and not a SP89 foregrip.

01coltcolt, did you gut this foregrip down?

Yes I did it was a stock SP89 grip.

01coltcolt, nice job on cutting the shroud, that's what I was thinking of doing. Was it easy to cut? I assume you used a rotary saw of some sort.
I actually used a hack saw and smoothed it out with a dremel.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is a SOT?
SOT=Special Occupation Taxpayer.

You need to have a manufacturer make an AOW for you. I paid $50 for a manufacturer to 'make' an AOW out of my CA98K. The gun transferred to me on a Form 4 with a $5 tax. You have to get the fingerprints and sign-off from the sheriff or whoever in your locality, though.

Thank you. You paid $50 to have someone install a vertical grip to turn it into an AOW?

If I ever have money I think I'll just go the SBR Form 1 route and put a folding buttstock and vertical grip on it myself to emulate the MP5K-PDW.

One year later has morphed into this on a form 1:

I saw a SW at a shop for sale that had a german K-grip that has the grip cut off slightly shorter than the tab shown on the factory front handguard. As long as it is cut properly this actually looked very good.
