A collectible grade KG date code “Mark 23” (not MARK 23) with low serial numbers in the 2400s is being offered to me to buy from a family friend. He is not the original owner and never fired it while owning it. It doesn’t look to ever be fired but not 100% sure as it has very light marks on the top of barrel hood probably from racking the slide. No other marks or blemishes on the slide or frame. Comes with the eagle industries camo case, original manual, bumper sticker and 4 mags (2 10rd and 2 12 rd). Wants $2700 for it. Here’s the question…is this a good buy as a potential investment as it would sit in the safe and not be taken to the range/fired, or am I better to hate my money elsewhere? I do have another MARK 23 from 2014 which is my range gun and I have plenty of fun with that.
I appreciate the input from all of you especially the collectors out there!

I wouldn’t say it’s collectible since it sounds used based on your description (collectors want Unfired and no wear on that barrel hood) but it is absolutely worth more than your paying. There was a brand new unfired example that sold last year for right under 4k so with all being said yours could be worth up to 3500 I’d think. Still a good deal and in your favor

If you have the $, why not?
It’s a chance to own one of the rarer versions and it wouldn’t be taken to the range as I already have my MARK 23 shooter. It would be a safe queen. I need to find out if it’s unfired or not. In my opinion the hood barrel marks are from racking the slide only and no rounds put through it

I’d buy it for sure. If there was no room in my safe I’d buy another safe!

Personally I used to be very conservative with gun purchases. Weighing out want vs need, selling one to buy another, hemming and hauling, etc.. Pains me to think of the pieces I let go or let get by.

IMO more than ever now is a good time to buy. Especially when a deal like that pops up. Not as good as the deal you’re acquiring but recently I picked up a P239 for $200, got a good deal on a new (discontinued) PPQ Q4 M2 Tac before they dry up, just located a one owner, never fired gen2 G23 for $300 which should be wrapped up this weekend. Why not.
