Any issues with cutting a MR556 down from 16.5 to 14.5? Do I need to change the gas block or anything? Thinking I will transfer it to my Approved SBR lower and sell the upper I currently have on that lower.

some people will say that its not good because of the way HK tapers the barrel, blah blah blah. I see nothing wrong with it, as a matter of fact my MR upper is at IGF as we speak getting shortened to 14.5". The gas block on the 16" will work on the 14.5" the same.

I would suggest that you get the barrel nitrided so that you have the protection benefits that Hk didn't add to the MR.

I just sent mine to Jayson to have it cut to 14.5", re-profile to SOCOM under the handguard, and then nitride the entire barrel because H&K won't do it

Good call. Thats the exact set up I'm going for. I'm also interested in his remarking. His latest email spoke about a new $100K laser engraver that can engrave the cut down/reprofiled barrels and the receivers with HK markings. Im SO down for my MR556 to be transformed to a 416D.

I have learned in such a short period of time that Jayson is one of the nicest guys I have ever dealt with. I am definitely looking forward to getting my upper back from him! If I ever decide to buy another MR556 and have it cut down to 10.4" he is getting the job
