While browsing Arfcom, I noticed that one of the members' Z-5RS had the weld point on the trunnion/receiver just above the magazine well, just like HK MP5s have. This is the only Z-5RS I've seen that has one, as many others (including mine) do not have this weld point. Is MKE now making the weld there to bring it up to HK spec?

That's also a different trigger housing. Mine was manufactured in July 2015 as per it's "birth certificate" (even though I bought it in May 2016) and it came with a trigger housing like this. Although the owner could have just changed that and the handguard himself.

They all have it, you just don't see it. On the he 2009-10 imports, they didn't grind it down, just as HK did not. On the new imports, it's there but they grind it flush. Here is a 2009 import:

It's faint but it's there.

And a 2010 import:

Look closely at yours and you'll see grind marks underneath the paint. They will be faint because the paint it so thick but you'll see them.

Maybe they want them to look pretty?

Seriously, I don't know. It's just what they do.

But it very well be something they do for the commercial ones just to pretty them up a bit. As you know I am sure, the civilian HK's in the 80's were prettied up compared to the ones produced for military consumption.

That's my Z5RS the OP is taking about. Yes I replaced the handguard and lower.

The manufacture date on mine is December 2016 so either it made it past QC like that or maybe this is the new standard.

Mine is a January 2016 one, so I wonder if they are changing the specs.
Possibly, I read a post on here a little while back from someone that knew Zenith said they were trying to make them more to HK spec so maybe that's the change. I also know that Zenith can't keep these in stock and they are waiting on a shipment of them from MKE, maybe to speed up production they stopped doing it?

Zenith posted a video on their FB page of a bunch of Z-5Ps that are getting ready for shipment. The video isn't high def but it appears that almost all of them now have the exposed weld while a few don't.

Here's another shot of mine after putting 190 flawless rounds thought it. I broke it in with some 147gr GD HP, 124gr Winchester ranger and then switched to 115 gr S&B FMJ.
I actually really like that the weld is exposed because it looks more "correct" in my head. I can't get over how much I LOVE this gun, sent off the Form 1 on Friday. This is going to be a LONG wait.
