I recently walked from a HK91 that had pitting in the barrel and pitting on the bolt head. The gun was very clear otherwise. Evidently the previous owner shot some corrosive ammo and did not clean it right away.

How much effect does pitting have on performance of the HK91?

thanks

Pitting tends to collect jacket material and is a good place for more crossion. Gun may shoot ok when clean ... or not depending on how much and where the pitting is. Does not have to be crossive ammo .... just mosture can cause issues with little to no oil.

At the right price… it will shoot great! I have some mosin nagants with pretty badly pitted barrels and once cleaned well they are great shooters. Again it comes down to price

How badly pitted is it, and is the bore dark? If not dark, then clean it up well, and see how it shoots. An option to remove the pitting is to firelap the bore. That may remove some of the pitting. Kzguns has it right; some guns pitted from breech to bore still shoot great.
