Farewell to Jim Schatz (G3Kurz)

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I share that our friend, Jim Schatz (G3Kurz), died yesterday.

Jim meant so much to all of us. To many within the Heckler and Koch community, Jim was an irreplaceable wealth of knowledge on all things H&K. His extensive experience on the inner workings of the company, the vast catalog of weapons and many of the development and fielding programs was immeasurable. He shared this knowledge freely and we all benefited, knowing that we could not have acquired it elsewhere.

Many of you may have been unaware of the huge efforts Jim also championed on behalf of our constitutional gun rights and improving the military procurement programs, the latter of which were in effort to ensure that our service members receive the best weapons, not just those from those from the lowest bidders. Most notably, in 2015, Jim was recognized by the National Defense Industrial Association with the prestigious Chinn Award. This award is presented annually to honor a government or industry individual who, in the opinion of the Small Arms Committee Executive Board, has made significant contributions to the field of small arms and/or infantry weapons systems.

To me personally, Jim was a dear and trusted friend and mentor. An Army Paratrooper of the highest order; proud and supremely confident; deeply loyal and committed. Over the years he helped me significantly by providing sound advice, recommendations and guidance, as well as just being a good listener. He set a great example for me of what a professional should be and I would truly not be in the place I am now, without his generous efforts.

Looking back now on several memories in small groups and private settings, I can smile and laugh at many of the hilarious stories he shared with me from his experiences over the years. Stories that are now lost, but because he shared them with me, they are not forgotten.

I am a far better person for having known Jim and our world is a much emptier place without him now.

For his family and friends, I wish that the pain of this great loss is soon replaced by cherished memories. Fair winds and following seas, Jim.

It's not a money thing. It's a corporate resource and attention thing. I will not give up.
I inferred from @CGuns1 ‘s comment about buying the info, he was suggesting that resources might be more available if this effort became a profit center for the company.

Yes. Additionally, if this could be a way to either benefit HK Pro or one of Jim’s favorite charities, it would be a very nice gesture, too.
Jim was a huge supporter of Boulder Crest, and I'm in for it, if the money goes toward it.

And yes....I am a huge fan of Jim.

Just my $.02

Just now seeing this, Chui, but if you do Facebook, I have HKPRO on Facebook group. His mother Eileen is frequently on there, and we are Facebook friends as well. Eileen Schatz. His nephew and niece are as well. He did not have any children. Oh, and I believe his sister, Denise Schatz as well.
Thank you, brother!

I have not given up on this and continue to pester VS for the resources to make it happen.
I am working on a backup plan in case for whatever reason VS isn't able to deliver. I have a spreadsheet with the URLs to 2,498 of Jim's posts.

Don’t look directly at the list, I think it’s some sort of mind control trick.

Trust me, it looks much better now than when I first showed it to you. I took your feedback to heart.

Bumping this back up as a result of this

It seems to me that:

1) A forum software “upgrade/modernization” is coming at some point.
2) Admin may not know when the upgrades will begin.
3) During the software migration to this new forum software platform, there is the prospect of data loss.
4) The years of accumulated information here is very useful and we should try and preserve it.

If I can be of help in continuing the project, “The collected knowledge of Jim Schatz”, let me know.

Unfortunately it's been a minute since I've been able to work on this project. Planning on dedicating some time each week to chip away at it though.

I thank you for your work on doing this. It's nice to have a collection of his knowledge for reference.
