From time to time I run across some deals on the 40's, but typically dislike the length. Just thought I'd check to see if anyone had done a thread on reducing the capacity/size of the 40's to something more bench friendly like 20 or 30rds? Seems like it might be simple enough to mill out the spot welds, shorten the mag, reweld, and tweek the spring? I know of, have, and have had good luck with the MKE mags-great mag at a great price. Just wanted to see if there were things to be learned before I chop on one of my metal 40's since I'm cheap that way but always looking for a project.

I did it once. I took a dremel to the bottom, and hacked it a little longer than the standard 30 round mag. Used a pair of pliers to bend some lips for the floor plate to slide one. Stuffed the spring in, pushed on the floor plate....and it only held 27 rounds. But, it's worked 100% so far.
