Hello, first I own no HK weapons, and am seeking data on an MP5 (registered FA). Any help/info would be much appreciated. I will have detail photos sometime over the coming weekend, will use a Nikon D7100 and 105mm Micro lens. LOL and I don't know if this is the correct forum to pose questions

Anyway, the back story on the gun follows:

The owner has had it for several years, he bought it from a large brick and mortar in OKC. At that time the brick and mortar told him the gun is a Pre Ban Factory FA which had been in a group of 5 purchased by a General Officer in the US Army pre ban for personal use. Other than having seen the weapon and his paper work I'm like Sgt Schultz, "I know nothing".

He has taken his family to Florida over Thanksgiving thus the wait for detailed photos. Photos of which pieces would be helpful in identifying this as good as can be with photos and typed descriptions?

Any and all advice appreciated

The OP does mention seeing the sellers paperwork. My advice would be that you can tell a lot from a man just by talking to him, but if you're new to HK I can't imagine dropping that kind of dough on a weapon system I know little about. What I want to know is if the gun looks good (i.e. not abused or a hack job conversion), what type of MG it is (sear, registered receiver or box) and the Form 4 looks good. There are a ton of factors that determine legitimacy and value in the would of HK MGs that take some time and experience to learn. If the seller is very patient and gives you time to research the purchase, I'd say you're in a good place. Start by using HKPro's search feature for types of hk registered machine guns and how they work and current pricing. All the information is already here, you just need to look it up.

Regarding the seller's back story, HK never sold factory MGs to the general public that I have ever heard of. More likely he bought 5 semi auto HK94s and had them converted and possibly remarked to MP5s.

Yep to above ...Agree it was unlikly this was a factory gun unlike say Colt or such they never offered FA to the public as far as I know

And yes learn what the base gun was ( kit ,hk94 etc etc ) then what part is the serial part ( if a sear is it matted to the gun )

Well guys, I came here seeking info and help. I'm not buying the weapon, the weapon was legally transferred to him years ago, he has the stamp and paperwork. I'm not selling the weapon for him, I am seeking info. Not accusations. I've obviously come to the wrong place, and I will trouble you no more. Thanks, and have a great holiday season.

Lol! You've been provided with lots of helpful information, but by all means throw a hissy fit and leave.

Your whole post rubs me the wrong way. Never do you refer to this man with this gun as a friend or relative. Why are you here seeking information exactly? If he cares about his guns at all, he can sign up and ask about them. A quick google search puts this forum right at the top of the search results.

Welcome to the site--- pics of the weapon's markings and paperwork details could determine the model of firearm converted, and whether it is a registered sear, registered trigger pack, or registered receiver!!!

hey guys, i know him from another board and advised him to come here for questions on the weapon. he is helping the elderly owner sell several weapons and this MP5 is one of them. he is just trying to help someone out is all. the weapon from what i understand is a registered pre 84 version with all paperwork but it was bought and put in a safe for most of its life. the seller nor crayj are experienced on how exactly to move an NFA weapon let alone one of this type. a lot has happened in the HK world since this one was bought. he is wanting to do the right thing but wants to make sure first that it is done correctly and secondly that the owner isn't taken advantage of since the value has increased substantially. any other specifics crayj can provide is appreciated but try and cut him a little slack. he is by no means an expert.

tis very well could be that diamond out there waiting to be discovered for an HK collector. we don't know until it can be determined exactly what it is.

from what i know the owner bought it around 30 years ago when FA could be bought and put it in a safe where it has been ever since. from another board where we are both members i'm not even sure this one was fired. like i mentioned earlier, i told him to come here with his questions. he is not trying to be sketchy or anything. he took possession of several other weapons to sell for the guy but left this one since it was an NFA item and his name is not on the form 4. if you ask him or tell him what to look for, he will tell you what he knows which right now is very little.

See if he can post pics of the weapon and paperwork (names/addresses redacted)--- either the sear, trigger pack, or receiver had to be registered before 05-19-86!!!

will do. i think he mentioned the owner is out of town for the holiday but bear with him. i can honestly say he is not one of those guys that say look at me, look what i say i have.

from what little i know its an early 80's model MP5 but he is trying to find out and i will be the first to tell you i don't know. thats why i sent him here. the gun does have paperwork but we all know all a form 1 or 4 really has is a model # and serial #.

Sometimes, the "manufacturer" of the firearm and caliber(s) registered can indicate whether it is a sear gun, registered trigger pack, or registered receiver!!!

He said he saw "paperwork", and I've seen people have recipes and manuals from the original purchase but not the NFA paperwork. Just wanted to clarify he actually needs to have the paperwork that matters and hopefully/presumably he does.
