I would like to take advantage of a 40% off of any Cerakoting job sale being offered. I have decided to make my HK P30L DA/SA no safety, the sacrificial lamb. Being that the shop does all kinds of custom work I wanted to go all out and make a really cool one of a kind type gun. I have found several other pistols, including the HK VP9 that have 4 or 5 lightening cuts done alone each side of the slide. To me it seems that the P30L would be the perfect gun for this type of modification as it already has cocking serrations on the front. A person would just have to cut between the lines. The shop has informed me that the P30L is not a pistol that they recommend doing this type of modification to. Their reasoning is that the P30L slide design does not allow for it. I was also told that it would look really out of place on this gun. Is the HK P30L slide design that much different form the VP9 that it is not possible?
The second issue to address is with the two barrel weights that are available for the P30L. I see that the Brown Bear Gear one is a screw on one and the HK Parts one is no tools required. If I purchase either of these it would be staying on the gun and would be cerakoted as well but I do like the idea of one that clips on rather than one that you have to put screws in. I am thinking that the screw model would like be the tighter, rattle free fit. Anyone have experience with either model. Hoping for feedback on both. If I purchase a barrel weight should I buy the longer barrel to complete it?
Lastly mulling over a cerakote color/pattern. I think that I have it narrowed down to 2 but that could change. Either Urban Grey or Stormtropper Battleworn. Suggestions appreciated.

It is either the lightening cuts or the barrel weight. Both, I think, would be too much. I may convert to light LEM. The stock sights may have to go. Considered stippling, but no.

Let's build this thing together with your suggestions and my money:)

I've no clue what allows a slide to be lightened or not, but I won't do it to a gun that I can't get a lighter recoil spring for, especially with a gun that's already relatively oversprung. Without tuning up the cycling those cuts are purely cosmetic.
My idea of a custom P series HK starts and stops with Rick Holm.

You didn't ask for my opinion so here it is. Forget all that non-sense. The only thing I would be incline to customize would to be a better set of sights. This is a duty/ combat gun, It ain't no Kimber show but no go piece!

I'm getting ready to Cerakote a few guns of mine and I really like the two tone colors of patriot brown and coyote. I love the Noveske Bazooka green and have a Noveske Infidel build that will be Cerakoted in bazooka. I really don't care for slide cuts myself and prefer naked/no logo slides. I have a tan USP Tactical coming and will be ordering a new slide to Cerakote in bronze/graphite black to go on it.

Thanks exitplan but I am not on duty and don't have any plans on using it for combat either. Functional show piece is just fine with me. Looking for "what the hell is that thing" reaction at the range, or "that thing is dope", from someone under 30. Honestly, I have lots of guns, so to build one that may be a little unpractical by giving it a little face lift and some plastic surgery is fine by me. Cool and better sites cold be RMR. I am starting to thing that the P30L may not be the best platform for the type of work that I am suggesting.

Is the USP bronze/graphite? I am digging it.
The one in the pic is just FDE. Bronze/Graphite black mix looks bad ass.

Not mine but a member here named KRISTO's USP done in Bronze/Graphite mix.

search this forum for "rmr cuts" or "rmr install" and "slide cuts" or "serrations" for some samples
i believe APO is still a site sponsor, and they have done a few on this forum
